Problem with graphics acceleration in vista RC1 with X800XL

I've tried installing both the 32bit and 64bit versions of vista on my Core 2 duo box with x800xl graphics card and i always get the same problem where the screen redraws are unbearably slow. You can see each frame rendered one by one! If i click and type into a text box the screen will take a few seconds to update. Disabling the x800 in device manager makes Vista usable, but only just.. I've also tried installing the RC1 catalyst drivers but that didnt help. My motherboard is an Asrock 775dual-VSTA which is supposed to be vista approved.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Only time I've seen similar is after turning off all the Vista effects.
Same as setting Vista to 'Adjust For Performance' in System Properties.

i found another person with the same problem as me and he is using the same ASRock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard. hmm

I managed to reslove this by downloading the beta 2 catalyst drivers from

The installer didn't work on rc1 so i had to install them manually in device manager from C:\ATI\Support\..\packages\drivers\.

Maybe this will help someone eles. I would post it for that guy on anadtech but i dont have an account there.
