The latest issue of Famitsu has an interview with Kazunori Yamauchi for the new Gran Turismo on PS3.

+ They'll release 2 versions for the new Gran Turismo (they use the same "Gran Turismo HD" name of the E3 demo for the product names) for the PS3 soon. Both support online multiplayer.

+ The proper GT5 is going to hit in 2008. GT HD is meant to grow the rich network service before GT5. The online modes are based on the 4 modes in GT4:Online beta (Quick Race/Tuned Race/Private Race/Time Attack) and several other modes are added. The online will be launched worldwide at the same time.

+ Gran Turismo HD: Premium is essentially a GT5 prologue that uses the full graphics power of the PS3. (Pictures show a 3D spectator crowd, very detailed car models with interiors.) The weather changes while racing. It comes with 2 courses (both original and new, city and nature) and 30 cars including new ones. You can buy additional 30 cars and 2 courses (real circuits) later online. This version (or both GT HD, not sure) is a pure driving simulator and almost a tool. You don't get cars in in-game events, you just do whatever you want with games and courses or buy new ones via online.

+ Gran Turismo HD: Classic is what adopts the GT:HD playable demo at E3 and meant to showcase the online aspect. A race is done with about 20 cars. Apparently this version starts with no cars or courses. You download a car for 50 - 100 yen (0.43 - 0.85$) and a course for 200 - 500 yen (1.71 - 4.26$). Over 750 cars and 50 tracks are available for purchase. Users can define race events freely and can hold online race events by themselves.

+ Not all cars and courses are available on the release date, they are added monthly. Some models may be a limited release for 1000 units. New playing modes and tuning parts may be available via download. It's still undecided if they allow trade among users in fear of real money trade.

So there will be GT:HD Premium, with full on graphics and models, online mode, with more cars and tracks available to purchase if you want more.
Then there's GT:HD Classic, which is basically the E3 demo, with 20 player online and hundreds of cars and tracks to choose from which you must first purchase.

Personally im going to wait for GT5 in 2008....2009...2010...

So hang on 3 versions of GT in a year!!!!
thats a bit of a joke IMO they really do try squeeze every penny outta GT they can dont they. GT:HD should include the classic it should be all in one. AND they should throw in GT mobile for fun!
Hang on!! Plus we need to BUY more cars for GT:HD!!! ehh no :(
hang on again! you need to buy the content for GT: Classic. There is a lot going through my head right now, but my post would begin to resemble the milky way with all the stars

Sounds like Sony really are going to be milking the GT fans of their money.

To me, it sounds like they're just going to try and tease you for a year, by releasing semi games and slowly developing and adding the content for you, instead of waiting and finishing the games, then selling it. It also sounds quite confusing to the general public who just want to go out and buy a GT game for their new shiny PS3, they'll get home, plug in the game, and realise they can't do sod all because they don't want to connect and buy stuff online.

Unless they give these things away for free, they're surely doing something wrong here, in my opinion.

so firstly you have to pay nearly 600 quid for the ps3 then you buy a game that just has menus, then you have to pay for sony's version of live or whatever way they plan to work that, then you have to pay to download car and tracks ?

what the hell are they thinking ?

Smoking the pot i think. :D

Surely that not right paying £50 for blank disk lol.

Jesus, lets go and blow it out of proportion. Final nail on the coffin? Milking you for all your money??

As i the post says, the extra cars and courses are optional. If you really cant wait for GT5 and want more than the basic demo, then buy some more cars and a track for, what, a couple of quid maybe. If you insist on buying all 750 optional cars then it will be expensive, but your own fault.
However a demo with no cars or tracks makes no sense, maybe we should wait for more details and confirmation of this.

Remember people, its optional. Unless you are obsessive compulsive and have to buy everything Sony throws at you, just dont buy it. I can wait until 2008.

I don't know what they're thinking, but I wonder what people on here are thinking at times.

The PS3 is not £600 and never has been! Some companies are selling preorders of the most expensive one with 3 games.

It's like saying the XBOX360 costs £430!

See this link for a pre-order at the supposed RRP.

Last i heard Sony's online service was free aswell

They've still not gone into full detail about it, and I'm still wary of it myself. Xbox Live is free too, just you can't do all that much instead of download content with it. I think the PS3 will follow a similar strategy, and will need to pay some sort of premium to play games, but it would be nice if Sony were to make it completely free.

According to the official US website:

We are sticking with our philosophy of maintaining an open platform; the basic online services such as playing online games, accessing downloadable content, and staying connected with your friends online will be offered to Playstation 3 users at no charge.

But i suppose its pointless speculating right now, since TGS is only 2 days away! Lets hope they don't change their philosophy :p

What you at least expect for some cars and courses to come with the game.

Surly that’s a joke…. I mean, who will buy a racing game which has no cars or tracks

Beginning of the end, Sony are not thinking about the fans.

They are releasing a 20 player online demo, with the option to purchase 750 cars and 50 tracks, as well as a 'GT5 Prologue', long before the release of the game. How many other games have that option?

Btw the 'premium' version comes with cars and tracks, which can be directly compared to GT4 Prologue. This will most likely be released on a disc, as it takes full advantage of the PS3 hardware.

The 'classic' version gives you the option to try out the online aspect of the game, the only catch being that you have to pay a small price (50p?) to unlock each car and slightly more (£1?) for a track. I suspect this version will be entirely downloadable, which would make sense, as it doesn't feature the full-on graphics of the premium version.
