Ok, I'll have to admit here, first up, that I get really scared when I'm playing certain games. I mean, I'll jump up and down, cower, accidentally throw my mouse across the room...you name it, I've done it - apart from actually soil myself.

Doom3 and its expansion. Never finished either of them. There's one bit in D3 where you walk up to a door and something bashes it from the other side - I still havent recovered and I played it when it first came out. I would often only play for 3 or 4 minutes before I had to turn it off.

F.E.A.R.: That little girl would freak me the hell out. Oh, and the ending nearly made me break my knee on the table.

Clive Barker's Undying - I've tried to play this game three times now - each time I get to the second boss and I have to stop. He gives me the heebie-jeebies.

And last, but certainly not least - the original fearmonger - Realms of the Haunting. I think this game came out in 1997 or so and it caused much hilarity amongst my friends. People used to visit my flat just so they could sit in the room next to my study and wait for the screams. My flatmate at the time told me how he'd be standing in the shower minding his own business and then he'd jump six foot straight up as I, in the next room, would suddenly scream in terror....only for it to be repeated thirty seconds later. The fact that I'm well over six foot tall and built like a brick outhouse only seems to make it funnier for people.

Small people also give me frights when they walk around corners into me.

I'm sure there's more though.

So, what got you?

FEAR and Doom 3 bored me :o Never found them remotely scary :(

The Splinter Cell games get me something chronic though - inches from a guy with a very big gun and nothing to my name except some Night Vision Goggles and a mean right hook.

Scared me to death :>

Oh and the AVP games as the Marine - so bad I had to go poop every 10 mins

Yes thats probably too much info....

Max Payne.... when you go into that dream state and you have to escape that house? ... freaked the **** outta me!

I thought this was just me, I was exactly the same. Stopped playing it 'cause I couldn't take the shock every 5 secs.

I will return to it tho. Tame the beast and all.

Fear had some creepy bits but ultimatley it got way to repetative for me to see it through to the end.

Anything else...mmmm.... some of resident evil 4, AVP 1 & 2, Bloodlines had 1 or 2 moments. You can throw 7th Guest in there as well.

That's about it.

System Shock 2, my god that scared the life out of me, and still does. So atmospheric, it just makes you want to buy disposable pants :(

The Undying is the only game that actually scared me, but loud sudden things make me jump alright. Half-life had plenty of that.

The worst stuff in the undying is when you 'scry' and then look at certain paintings. Freaky **** man.

Your name would suggest otherwise. ;)

If there's any Thief fans in here, namely Thief 3, there's a level called the Cradle, the spooky sounds from the attic and basement scared the hell outta me. But I loved it, without doubt in my eyes the best use of sound in a game ever. It created a very sinister atmosphere and environment and messed with my mind.

Thief 2 > Thief 3

Same situation here :) I played it by myself when at uni..all my housemates had gone home for xmas...I was in the place alone at about 4am. Took me several minutes to work up the courage to go upstairs to the loo ;p

The original Doom & Doom2 when i played when they first came out. Though i had played some 1st person shooters before these (Wolfenstein etc), the Doom games were the first to make me flinch to what happened on screen & with the related sound effects - lights turn out & the monsters scream when they see you & charge.

The first AvP game when i started playing as the marine & the first few aliens ran at you - it was hard to lock onto them with your pulse rifle & they would just attack out of the shadows.

Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth has some rather weird moments too.

Good point :)

The Undying scrying part....there's one picture of the whole family - then you scry and they've all got their heads chopped off and stuff........yes - unpleasant :)

I got a game just recently (but for the life of me I can't remember the name) where I was a cop who got framed for shooting two other cops - had lots of melee combat in it... - lots of forensics stuff to do - not a bad game really - there was a point in that game where I was in an abandonded house and the squeaky floorboards were awful.

I don't know why - these things literally give me mini-heart attacks but I keep going back to them time and time again..... I once made a concious decision not to play Doom3 afte night fell. hahaha.....didn't last long....I was busy screaming like a big girl again before too long.

Maybe I'm just a sadist :(

I don't like games where things jump up at your face, scares the hell out of me, I was a nervous wreck on Ravenholm in HL2, FEAR had some creepy moments but generally wasn't too bad, Doom 3 was fine as those little spider things didn't jump too high :p

I still jump on games like bf2 where I come around a blind bend face to face with an enemy and we both jump and start sporadically firing at each other :D

Pah those games are weak, anybody remember when silent hill 1 first came out on the PS1, now that was just ridiculous, I was one of those stupid people who played it downstairs alone in the dark at like 3am too, scare the living brown stuff out of me. Everytime that damn radio went crazy, it just had the really sick music start playing the BAM your being attacked by some flying thing or some crawling thing, and dont get me started on the damn hospital.

AVP for me. No other game has made me **** my pants like this game. It's bad enough when you start the first level with the marine, what with the bleeping from the bleepy thing, but when you go up that lift and turn the corner

Yep same here along with Parasite Eve II on the PS1

Other than that I found Doom 3 allowed me to smell pure adrenaline

Half Life 2 Ravenholm has its moments

The Silent Hill games were ace, Resident Evil never really frightened me as such, give me a few jumps in place, but Silent Hill actually made me sweat playing it. :)
