Or should it be called Betafield 2142

I have been playing this game daily since release day and tonight for some strange reason punkbuster kicks me. I notice on the little display at the bottom of the screen in battlefield 2142 that there has been lots of people encountering this error and to fix it you have to visit a website www.evenbalance.com

Here you update your punkbuster. Right so I updated my punkbuster and every single server I go in is still kicking me straight out, what did I part with my cash for? A game which refuses to work, a patch released on release day of the game. This is ridiculous, it really is getting beyond a joke now. EA need to pull their finger out and stop releasing games which aren't finished. I have had a browse on the net and find people are having the exact same problem with no fix available as yet. Has anybody else here been having the same problem and if so has anybody found a way round it?

I'm going to give battlefield a fresh install now but I doubt it will make any difference. WTF EA U SUCK

just show how much you know about game companys
its dice that programmed it ,

Don't come in and flame my thread with your bad attitude, this is a thread for people having problems and trying to find a solution. Don't need no deconstructive negative attitudes in here so please keep your comments out of this thread unless they are helpful as they are unwanted. Thank You

Well re-installing didn't work so I uninstalled again but deleted the left over 2142 folder as it still contained punkbuster files, re-installed and the game played for more than five minutes without kicking me. I then updated punkbuster, re-entered a server and guess what, yup punkbuster error and I was booted. I give up, i'm going to format tommorrow and re-install everything and if that doesn't work my bf2142 disc is going to be used as a frisbee as that's all it'll be good for. Time for bed, it really is late and my head hurts, damn you EA.

EA still distribute the game and were no doubt pushing Dice so they could get it out as quick as possible. I mean even Dice knew it was incomplete, they released a patch on the first day!

Its all money for EA, they milked the BF:2 series for everything it was worth with expansions and what-not. Same with the Need for speed series, the last 2 versions of it were pretty much the same game with a few things changed, but were released as seperate games.

It's a trend with EA. Anything that has their logo is generally screwed somehow, regardless of who programmed it.

NFSU 2 and Most wanted were completly different

Your all flaming EA because of a problem with Punkbuster which isnt actually owned by EA.

Also, Chopper, if the game hadnt kicked you for 5 mintues why did you update pb. Dont fix what isnt broken.

Not really, NFS:U2 and MW are practically the same besides there being a new city, the cops chasing ya around and stuff like that. The basic principal of the game is still there same.

And EA are responsible for the quality control. Apparently they have 70 people in their QC department (no, I didn't believe it either).

Best not to come up with rubbish like that on this forum, post something that contributes to the thread or don't post at all.

Hi Guys
When you get kicked by punkbuster do you get a message telling you that it’s a PB kick? And does it kick you back to the server screen or do you get a crash to desktop?

Im getting really annoyed as the game keeps crashing to desktop every single time. :(

I just get you have lost your connection to an EA server but I don't think it's to do with PB as mines upto date,I downloaded PBsetup which updates all your PB files for all games.

Thundy.

Just tried logging in (on holiday :)) and I can't connect to the master server.

Just found that pbsetup has stated there's a new update that's occured overnight but I don't think pb runs for the master server just the game..

I had been punkbuster kick free since I did the original update, obviously I need to do it manually again if there's been an update. When it happens I get kicked with a punkbuster message back to the server screen.

CTD's are a separate issue, getting loads of them. Only managed about 2 full rounds all last night because of them.

Not the only time I've had issues with EA.. I keep getting this from their BF2142 forums:

type Exception report

description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.

lol... quality control!

Oddly, I've had zero problems with the game (apart from the obligatory slow updating of stats), it runs fine with not a single BSOD or CTD, no sound issues, no Punkbuster kicks and very little lag.
My system isn't remotely a world beater (Athlon 64 3800+ Venice @ 2.5GHz, 7900GS 256MB @ 620/779, 2 GB PC2700, SB Audigy 1) and my net connection is around 4.5MB, although that disconnects at least once a day (probably because I have an internal modem instead of a router, which sometimes plays havoc with my BRAS profile).
I almost feel guilty for enjoying trouble free BF2142 sessions!

I was having the same problem last night. The game was crashing, d/c me from games and I was getting punkbuster errors. I downloaded the pbupdate and all seems fine now.

I have also been getting a lot of disconnects and a message that just says 'ERROR' . No idea what that means, been getting it since release.

One thing you could try is turning VOIP off in the audio menu. This was a bug in the demo and im not sure if its carried over into the full game, but worth a try.

Well I re-installed the game again but didn't update PB. Just been in a server for 5 minutes and it didn't disconnect me, it usually does after a few seconds. But when I look at server history it shows the server in red and says it has generated an error so I don't know if this has been fixed yet. I read on another forum about BF2142 actually deleting files itself, this was found through someone using file auditing, he has been replacing the file it deletes each time he wants to play. I can't believe EA have not fixed this yet, I know the punkbuster update works for some people but it doesn't for others. Got to go out now, if this problem persists later then I'm formatting for sure.

lo joe :) fire up your icq later, i got it all working again

I have found there are different ways to sort this out. I found another solution today on EA's website/forum from some guy who from the sound of it works for EA. This one included using a tool which searches for the ad-aware in bf2142 and deletes a couple of files. These files are why punkbuster iss kicking people. For other people disabling voip is working at stopping the error. As for myself I formatted earlier and gave my computer a fresh install of everything, I haven't updated punkbuster and it seems ok for now apart from servers I have visited go red in server history and when I try to join them it says error has occurred on server but if I type in the servers ip address directly it connects just fine. I don't think there will be a single fix that works for everyone until they bring another patch out, hopefully anyway.
