Sorry if it's already been posted.

Now, I'm not a Sony basher generally. I'm interested to see what the console can do when it's released here..

but just take a look at the BS they are spinning in these vids, particularly the second.

Let's not go with rendered footage anymore, hell just use real life footage and talk about how it compares to the power of the cell. Competely riduculous.

What is ridiculous about that? Dnt forget that one man's meat.....anyway i like it when things are slightly different from the norm.

I like it, and remember not everyones as technically minded as the people on here, and dont think about the whys, hows and whats behind the technology powering a console.

So that just explains it in a very simple and easy to understand way, I like it

Hangggg on.

I detect a bit of a half truth:

On the video "smarter"

Qoute:

"The cell has not 1, but 8 synchronised CPUS" Doesnt the PS3 only have 7?

Moments later in same video:

"While a normal computer can only handle one task at a time, the PS3 handles multiple tasks"

im nnot gonna bash it because i do like the marketing from a marketing standpoint. But i dont like the deceptive intent of it, it could lead people to believe the PS3 is obscenely more powerful than it is. Its like that whole sunflower bit. What it didnt show was that 90% of the feild of sunflowers were hollow filler husks and that you can get more gameplay into that one little seed than into a whole field of full grown oak trees.

The Cell has one full PowerPC CPU core, and eight small SPE cores (Digital Signal Processors - for number crunching) and for for the PS3 only seven of the SPE's are used leaving one redundant.

That's one way of looking at it. What it looks like to me is typical Sony talk. You watch those vids and people will actually start believing the PS3 will generate storms, invividual **********, gazillions of individual raindrops that are all perfect and different etc.

That' the real reason behind the images. Kids going 'oh my god - check out what this can do'. It's on par with rendered commercials and should be flippin stopped.

I'd much rather they show something technical for people that are of that nature, and for those who aren't... some games?

Cool adverts...but surely the 360 (and the PC) are capable all that and more?

I don't think a PS3 will be entering this house (unless a mate buys one and brings it over :p) until at least xmas 2007, all my money will be going on 360 accessories :(

Whats the game in the first clip? Looks nice.

Like the way they have, say 10 sunflowers, and then double it - only to have a full field as far as the eye can see :p

Nope it has 8 SPE's but one is for redundancy, so technically 1 core plus 7 would give 8 ;) i assume thats the math they are using

I don't think many people here can make a definitive judgement on the accuracy of those adds. They do seem OTT, but there was what appeared to be some In-game footage.

Lets just wait and see, what the console can actually do.

Perhaps I heard it wrong but did it say the cell was 40% faster than the PS2 CPU?

Doesn't that seem a bit low as the PS2 CPU isn't exactly that powerful for todays standards.

I have heard about that personally, but maybe they mean each one of the 7 is 40 percent stronger than the PS2 CPU? So its saying it has 7 cores that are like the PS2 CPU's, but 40 percent more than that?

No idea though, not heard anything about it.
