I'm really fed up at the moment

Just got my system set it all up and i've booted it up and it says it can't find the drive i've plugged in.
Yet when i go to the bios it's seen a 80g system drive in there?

So i saved and powered up again and no go still can't see it.
I've plugged the drive in the SATA RED port.

Please please someone help me out as i'm lost i don't no what to do and i've been on it for hours!

I wanted to use at least 3 Sata drives none on a Raid just a boot up disc and the other 2 for downloads and storage

Also how on earth are you meant ot connect the dvd drive from where the IDE port is i can't reach !

About had enough now please anyone help me

I've gone into the bios >"ide configuration" and changed it to Raid and now i get the option to press control I to set up a raid but i don't want to do that all i want to do is boot of one drive and use another as storage.
I've got a old windows xp of my old system on there is that what the problem could be ?

But why does it say after the inter matrix storage manager "can not detect drives?

I can't work it out i really can't got a headache now!

Use the red socket for your boot drive. The other two (black) for Data.

Disable Sata raid in ide configuration.

Instead set it to:

Configure SATA as [Standard IDE]
Onboard IDE mode [Enhanced mode]
Enhanced mode Support on [SATA]

I'm sure it was like that the first time and i for sure had the drive on the red socket.

It has nothing to do with the disc having windows on that i used on my odl set up has it?

Really cheesed off with this.

Thanks for the reply any more info would be great :)

Tried that and it still the same see's them in the SATA menu that powers up . The one that lets you press ctrl and I to creat a raid but it won't boot up from there?

Do i need to install the Inter matrix drivers or the sata?

This what i get when the system starts in the American screen

Primary master driver atapi incompatible
cpu fan error ( no idea whats wrong there?)
press F1 to resume

it see's my 2 discs as :-
3rd master
3rd master
ultra dma mode-5 S.M.A.R.T capable and status ok

The cpu fan error is easily sorted. go into hardware monitor and disable the cpu fan monitor(you have got a cpu fan installed and running I hope!).

As for the drives:

Having windows on a disk won't prevent your bios from detecting it. You should not get the raid selection option (green CTRL+I screen) come up if you have disabled it in the bios. The only time that should pop up is if you have the 'configure SATA as [RAID]' enabled.

In your bios there is a list of all the drives you have connected. I think iirc that its somewhere in the boot options section(not boot priority). Should look something like this :

CD Drives

1st [ASUS P1608p DVRW]
2nd [Lite-on 1563 DVRW]

Hard drives

1st [Samsung Spinpoint]
2nd[Samsung Spinpoint]
3rd [HD 197548383902]

etc. yours will look a little different depending on what drives you have attached.

They won't be all be shown in the boot priority bit, this is a separate section. That will simply list the master drive on each controller, 1 SATA, 1 IDE, 1 floppy etc.

You don't need to install any drivers if you don't use raid and just want basic SATA functions. If your drives have some jumpers then look on the manufacturers website for advice on how to set them up.

The bit that concerns me is the ATAPI driver bit, never seen that before. Have you got your CD/DVD drive attached to the socket next to the floppy connector or the one near the bottom of the motherboard? Make SURE its next to the floppy socket!

Have you tried restting the CMOS (remove battery, move cmos jumper for 15 seconds, move back and replace battery)?

Also worthy of note is that Windows will not show unformatted drives up in 'my computer' - but thats a separate issue.

Ok i'll try some of that when i get in later this afternoon ( at work now)
I've not got the cd connect atm as i can't get the cable to reach my drive.
I was going to use the bottom port near the SATA drives but i need a longer cable to reach.
Are you saying use the one next the floppy then i thought that was for something else.

I've not reset my CMOS yet no

I was planning on reinstalling windows and installing a SATA driver.
I have a old ABIT kv8-max raid board and even though i ran it just like how i want on this board i still had to install the SATA drivers as windows could never see my hard drive before i installed windows on to that. Was beginging to think thats what my problem maybe? And the fact i'm using a disc with my old computers os on it?

Lol yeah i've a artic cooler running on the cpu though i didn't panic when i seen that message come up !

I'm really getting worked up over this as i just can't see what i've done wrong and that manual they give you may as well be in dutch!

Many thanks for your reply anything else you can think of please post

I have NEVER had to instal sata drivers with windows. Maybe its because my windows already has SP2 integrated, has yours? The only time you need drivers in the windows installation process is for RAID afaik.

There have been numerous problams associated with using the bottom IDE port rather than the one next to the floppy so I wouldn't risk using the bottom one as it may cause even more problems.

Yeah i've got Xp sp2 running on my old OS disc.
Ok i'll use that other IDE port then thanks. I'm dreading going home ad tryin gal of this cause i'm not sure it's goin to work then i don't know what to then! :(

I've always had to install RAID drivers when i've installed windows even though i was not running a RAID set up wierd

Still 3 hours time i'll try these things out i have all afternoon on it.
So keep checking this forum as i may need help :D

Thanks again.

Ok reinstalled windows and i've got it working but i've got some problems

First off i can't seem to use that blue port near the floppy as soon i goto windows it doesn't read any disc i put in there tired to dvd writers then i switched it to the port at the bottom and it seems to work fine now.

Second off i'm not sure what i need to install off the motherboard disk?
