Bit of a strange question but how much could I pick up a secondhand Canon EOS 300D in good condition with box and kit lens? Also same but for the 350D?

Also is the 350D worth it over the 300D? What does it add features wise?

Sorry about the stupid questions but I am looking to buy one to get much more into photography and replace my very much aging Fuji 4700Z. I am not new to SLRs but haven't used a digital SLR before.

Thanks

I picked up a 350d from the Canon refurb store for £375 inc lens and delivery, which seems to be about right for the 350. Considering the pictures I'm getting I'd say it was money well spent.

Nothing wrong with Nikon, and considered the Pentax but I am afraid I prefer the Canon.

Well at least you've tried others. ;)

I'd say the 350D is worth the extra over the 300D, although it is smaller in size. It seems that the 350D will sell from £280-£350 body only s/h. Bare in mind that it's also possible to pick up a 20D for not a lot more than the £350 fall off point for a 350D body.

Get a d70, in my opinion it beats the 350D hands down! :)

I agree, but then i would take a 20D over a d70 !

*awaits nikon consumer comments* ;)

Have you tried both ? i couldnt live with a 350d and had a 300d from very early on, i couldnt go back to that now either - very slow to use and the focus isnt great compared with newer bodies. I would defi put a little extra towards a 20d but the 350d is a great choice if you like the handeling/button layout :)

Unfortunatly not. Not being current models its hard to find them in a shop where I can actually look at them and have a play.

The 350D is defintely a firm favorite at the moment, but apparently you can update the 300D so its basically a 10D which makes me think that it could be a good budget option. I haven't got loads of cash to splash on this but I would rather get a camera I won't have to think about changing for a while. I am consider the 20D and D70 now.

£300 for a good 300D, most go for even less than this. I've seen some right bargains go for around £250.

:)

I had a Nikon D100 (very similar to the D70), and the only thing that I can find about it that betters the 20D that I now have, is the handling.

so how much are we talking about for each of these? inc lense?

300
350

D70
D100?

20D

I'm looking at prices atm as I want to move up from my fujifilm S5000 (nasty image compression if I don't use RAW).

Didnt find the images to bad on the S5000, just far to much shutter lag for taking pictures of the little ones running round at parties.
No problems now with the D80 :D

I don't have enough for one of those tbh!
I'm looking for the cheapest DSLR I can get that will do better than the S5000!

I am a Canon user and own a 300D and a 10D, but if I was starting from zero today and had not used an SLR before and was on a small budget, I'd pick up a new Nikon D50 and shoot away. On a bigger budget, I'd skip the Canon plastic (three digits) and go for the best 2 digit camera I could afford, be it 10D, 20D or 30D.

The D50 is about £325 body only. My company ordered one in for a customer the other day. I had a quick play with it, and it wasn't bad. Handling was good, although not so fast as the D70/100. Build was good, although not so good as D70/100. It was a little smaller than I'm used to aswell.

I'd go for a D70 any day over the D50, and also the D100 with hindsight. The D100 has exposure issues in some cases, and can expose ok to 1-1 1/2 stops under.

If buying a s/h D70, you can ask the owner to check the number of shutter actuations (will help give an idea of mileage) using Opanda Iexif. There are D70's on eBay from £270 buy it now at the mo, body only. A real bargain. The D100 weighs in about the same, perhaps a little more.

I wouldn't bother with a 300D, because you can pick up a D70 for not a lot more.

20D ~£500 with kit lens. Less if you shop around carefully. I picked my 20D up on FredMiranda forums for £400 inc delivery. An 18-55 can be had for £35-40.

350D ~£350-£70 with kit lens.

350D/D70 pretty evenly matched. Obviously there are differences in each cameras favour, but they balance out.

/me wanders off to check them all out.
all I've godda do now is find the money.....anyone wanna buy me one from christmass?

High street camera stores quote £100 to buy 300Ds off people, so they probably flog it for £150 after markup.

On ebay they are going for £300-400 with kit lens and accesories.

The residuals on Canon stuff is very good!
