***Warning - Dell Monitor Warranty***

Well aparently this is normal.. read below. thanks for the info redeye

If the monitor was purchased by itself on a Order Number
- 3 year warranty based off of the PPID number

If the monitor was purchased with a PC on the PC Service Tag Number
- 3 year warranty based off of the PPID number or the longer PC warranty

If the monitor was purchased from a reseller (Ebay, CostCo, etc.) with no Order Number or PC Service Tag Number
- 3 year warranty based off of the PPID number

How do you ascertain the PPID information? You don't. You give the PPID number to the Technical Support representative and they will look it up. Once we ascertain that the monitor does have warranty coverage, the Technical Support representative will setup the exchange based on either the:
- Order Number
- PC Service Tag Number
- no Order Number or PC Service Tag Number (we will use a Generic Service Tag number to transfer your Name, Address, Phone, Email, Monitor PPID into the Dell system and setup the exchange)

Don't know if you bought your Dell from the same seller on a well known auction site as me, but he told me this-

seller said:
"The warranty is not with me.The warranty is with Dell,but i be your first contact.If i stop being a reseller then Dell will be aware of this,witch ,means they will honour the warranty direct with you.."

...is this just a lie then? I mean hopefully my 2007WFP won't break in the first place, but I bought it on the understanding I had a Dell warranty.

possibly the same seller.. but he told me that the warranty is with dell.. but its not your warranty its his.. he bought the screens so all the warranty is in his name.. you contact him and then he contacts dell and arrages collection and delivery to your address.

i think this is shocking. the warranty should be able to be transferred to the us, but as dell do warranty by service tag OR customer number/order number. we have no direct like with dell with regards to warranty.

I read all my sellers feedback before buying so I already knew the warranty was through him, since some people had mentioned it in their feedback. As you'll see above though, he did assure me that should he stop being a seller, Dell would honour the warranty.

What does the service tag look like btw and where should it be? I have a bar code and serial number, but nothing that specifically says service tag.

edit:thought I should remove the sellers name

only the 3007WFP will have a service tag. and it will be a 5-7 digit alphanumeric code with service tag written on it
 
Thought we got this all sorted on the last thread on this subject??? This thread is liable to get deleted like the last one but hey ho.

The warranty is with Dell but the chap you bought it from runs a company, thus you bought it from a retailer, same as buying it from OcUK. If it goes wrong you contact him and he contacts Dell (the correct way of a retailer dealing with a warranty). If his business stops you contact Dell direct.

To quote the Dell monitors forum admin for the second time...

You don't need a service tag for warranty service and you don't need to transfer the warranty to yourself.
