Hi,

I have just done a new build, Evga Nforce 680Sli mobo, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB Geil PC6400C4 Ultra Low Latency, MSI 7900 GTO 512MB DDR3, Seasonic S12 550, however when I power on, after a few second it gives one longish beep of about 2-3 seconds, and nothing else occurs. The blue, green and orange lights are on, the Case and graphics cards fan run.

I am using the 8 pin connector, and the blue slots for Ram.

When I power on, quite a few numbers flash up, at the time of the beep, number 26 momentarily appears, then some more numbers, 6F, 75, and it then settles at 7F.

Exactly the same thing occurs without an HDD connected.

I have also tried a single stick of Ram in the 1st blue slot.

What are the possible issues that could stop it from posting?

Many thanks for your suggestions. :)

The Asgard:

It states the following of 7F:

Name: POST error check
Description: Check POST error and display them and ask for user intervention

Not sure what that means?

I did notice that one of the fan headers did not work with one of my Case fans, when the fan is attached to header next to the CPU, it does not work, but when it is connected to the fan header at the bottom (next to Clear CMOS Jumper) it works, would this be a symptom of some other problem?

Many thanks. :)

It means that the person who designed the errorcode system is a total plonker.

"Description: Check POST error and display them and ask for user intervention " Totally useless!

You have probably already checked but is there more than 1 error code for 7F in the book? Usually you will find more than 1.

Without anymore meaningful error descriptions its just the stanadard stuff.

First drop the battery out for the bios. Make sure the psu is unplugged. Leave for 2 mins. Try again

---------------------------

Take all cards out. Leave out.
Reseat All power connections. Make sure everything is connected
Reintsall processor
Try 1 strip of ram
Put the graphics card in
Try powerup

I dont use any fan headers on my board being watercooled so no m8.

The Asgard:

Removed battery for 2 mins, put it back in and tried again, no change.

Also cleared the CMOS, tried again, still no change. :)

Have you tried the 2nd part? Removing all cards etc ......

If you have tried the above and you know your kit works from a previous build then I would RMA the board for a replacement/credit.

The Asgard:

I removed everything except for cpu, cpu heatsink & fan, and Ram and when powered on it still gives the same codes.

I then also removed the Ram and it gave a code of F6, which is not listed.

This is a new build, ie motherboard, cpu, cpu heatsink & fan, Ram, graphics crad, and PSU are all new. :)

You need to narrow down the problem. Try and test what you can in another computer.

Maybe worth posting in the EVGA tech forum for some specific advice on the errorcode. Sorry I can't be anymore help.

Hi
Just on the fan note, you do have the cpu fan plugged into the white connector to the right of the socket, I put it in the one to the left in the excitement and had a similar 7F error.

I am using the 8 pin connector, and the blue slots for Ram

Do you also have a 4 pin molex connected just behind the PCI Slots?

gizmoy2k:

CPU fan connector is connected to right mobo connection.

The only 4 pin molex connection I can find on the mobo is between the Front Panel connector and FDD connector, the Auxilary Power for Graphics PWR3, for 3rd graphics card. Am I missing a 4 pin molex here?

I am using 24-pin ATX Power and 8pin ATX 12V Power. :)

Elric:

The CPU fan is connected to the CPU fan connector (4 pin so can be either 3 or 4 pin connector) situated above and right of the cpu.

There is a fan header to the left of the cpu, right next to the "Backpanel Connectors", however, when I connect a Case fan to that, the fan does not work, so I have connected that Case fan to the other fan header at the very bottom right hand corner of the mobo, and connected there, it works.

I had written earlier:

Would this fan header not working be a sympton of some other issue? :)

Its between the IDE connection and a front panel connector, just to the right of the RAM, Sorry was at work and working from memory.

You should have this connected but from your post its not clear if you do, I have 1x 7900GX2 and i have plugged that molex in, give it a go.
My manual states " PWR3 connector is aux power connection for gfx cards"

Nothing about only the third one

Other than this, you seem to have everything correct, I suggest EVGA forums

Thank you for your suggestion, unfortunately connecting PWR3 connector didn't change anything.

As regards the EVGA forums, I have already posted there and no joy.

Anybody any other suggestions?

It may be a case of RMA'ing it. :)

In the EVGA forums, inserting a single RAM stick would often allow the board to boot (ie. ONE STICK not both). From there you set up the RAM timings, etc.

Yes, i had the same fan issues....also....the board failed to detect my Sli GFX setup...so i RMAd it...now have a striker extreme and the onboard lighting on that dont work....so...another RMA in order....

A bit of an update here I think is in order, with the EVGA Nvidia 680SLI failing to post, with no matter what I tried, I RMA'ed it and got the Asus P5WDG2 WS Pro, which is now running well, no real problems, also very happy with the setup I have now. :)
