I am waiting for a X-FI extreme gamer (not Fatal1ty) to turn up, but i think i am gonna swap it for a extreme music,
i need to know a few things about it tho!
the gamer does not output multi chanel thru its optical out, it only routes it thru from a software DVD player, all it supports is stereo thru opti out!
now i think (correct me if im wrong) the gamer outputs multichanel for games thru its analog outs, and DD, DTS & DD-EX , - DTS-ES (not discreet) thru its analog outs ?
first question, does the extreme music support multichanel thru its digital out-
either multi chanel from games or DD, DTS from films, and if so does it support DD-EX & DTS-ES thru digi out ? or does it do the same as the extreme gamer, ie just route the signal thru.....
secondly, does it handle DD, DTS formats differently to the extreme gamer, i have heard some of the X-FI cards (Like the extreme gamer) dont properly support the formats, does the extreme music decode DD, DTS and output as standard thru digi out or analog out?
thirdly,(is the digi out a standard coax type output, so i can connect a 75ohm coax cable RCA to RCA with a 3.5mm adaptor..from my home cinema amp to the digital out on the soundcard)
I know the extreme music supports the Creative I/O dongle that handles optical and coax in, and out, but i realy want to know, is the digital output fully functioning, so i can hook the 1 cable up to my home cinema amp and get all available sound formats thru it from games, films, and music.....
thank you for your patience.
(maybe it would be better for creative to include all this sort of info on its website)!

As far as I understand it, the only difference from the Music to the Fatal1ty FPS series is the Fatal1ty (and Elite Pro) versions have 64Mb onboard memory.

This is used in newer games (BF2 currently) to move all the sound processing to the Sound card and can give a small FPS boost as the CPU is then freed from sound.

Although the Music has the same processor, it is restricted to 2Mb RAM meaning it must use more system RAM when processin sound effects.

Given the card's ability to use 128 simultaneous voices, processing would be a lot more for sound than say standard embedded audio. That's what prompted me to go for the Fatal1ty FPS.

See here for details:

hes talkin about the newer xtreme gamer, not the fatality FPS.
I have no idea, i just thought id let everyone know so that they could assist you better, im also stuck as to which X-fi to get, damn creative brought way to many out.

-the gamer does not output multi chanel thru its optical out

Neither does the Xtreme Music, but both cards will output a pre-encoded bitstream (e.g. AC3, DTS) to your receiver for decoding there.

-is the digi out a standard coax type output, so i can connect a 75ohm coax cable RCA to RCA with a 3.5mm adaptor

Yup

I don't think the differences between the two cards are enough at all to justify sending one back and getting the other.

Running through S/PDIF at the moment using the 3.5mm -> phono adapter that came with my Creative speaker set (decoder takes a standard co-ax input). It also works with a miniplug -> stereo adapter when the white plug is used.

In the Windows volume control panel, select the advanced controls then tick the 'Enable DigitalIO' box

awesome, thanks :D

been pulling my hair out since the cable arrived, and my girlfriend was getting annoyed at the amount of forums i've been searching through today :p
