When Vista is released in the Action Pack, will XP be removed?

no, Xp will be supported up untill Service Pack 4, at least SP3 will go out next year. Depends on how many customers are still using XP.

Thats what I would think. 2K is still supported and NT was only pulled less than 18 months ago.

Agreed. Whilst I had fun with the beta, I'd like to see things pan out before I make the switch.

Can you get the key through the MS:AA yet??

Nope :( I emailed the guy in charge of ours and he doesnt seem to think we'l be able to get it till its retail release

the only reason i haven't switched to vista is that there is no programme such as coolbits that allows me to force different refresh rates at different resolutions i.e. i need 1024x768@100hz for desktop and 640x480@100hz for cs 1.6 and 1280x1024@100hz for FEAR!

There are still a lot of drivers missing.
Nvidia still havent released a decent driver for Vista. Theres a beta one but game performance is shocking, half that of XP, and the latest 8800 isnt supported at all.
Most devices should work but ive heard that some scanners, webcams etc dont work and have no drivers, and software is also a problem.
Nero isnt yet 100% working, it will install and work but keeps on throwing up errors which are annoying.

Prob the main reason which it isnt being released to the 'home' market until the end of january.

I have Vista through MSDN and have installed it on two systems - my main PC and a Media Center. Initial impressions are fairly good, just about all the hardware was installed automatically and being able to find drivers on a USB key is very handy (no more connecting up floppy drives!).

My outstanding issues I have to resolve are:

- You can't mix and match graphic cards with different drivers. I used to have a Dual DVI 7800GT PCI-E and a Radeon 9250 on PCI to provide 3 DVI outputs to my 3 Dell 19" monitors. I am currently just running with just the two monitors and am mulling over whether to sell them and get a 24" Dell or something instead.

- Graphics card drivers are still in beta stage. Can't seem to get clone mode to work from my Media Center to both the LCD TV (on DVI) and Projector (on VGA) with my nVidia 7300LE PCI-E

- TV Card drivers aren't working properly. This I think is specific to my Hauppauge PVR-250MCEs where the drivers are in beta and they periodically lose signal and cause the machine to hang for about 20-30 seconds (this is the biggest showstopper I have)

- Surround sound from my Media Center is not working properly, fairly sure this is down to early drivers.

So really as a pure OS I do like it... although I think everyone will turn off the setting which causes the OS to warn you before you do just about anything. On my main PC it has been perfectly stable. My Media Center has a few issues but all of these can be blamed on the immature level of driver development.

Give it a couple of months to the proper consumer launch and I think things will be much better. I had to upgrade as after 5 years I was bored of XP!
