Hello,

I just got myself a 32" Samsung R73, and I don't whether it only just started, or if I just didn't notice it at first, as I have only had it a few days, but when the TV goes into standby, there is a high pitch whine coming from it. It is definately from the TV, because it goes when there is no power to it.

I searched here and on Avforums for similar things, and others had similars problems but that was down to the connections to other sources, ie. DVD player etc. When they unplugged them, it went.

Unfortunately, mine only goes when I unplug the mains, which I don't want to have to do every time I turn the TV off. As I sleep in the same room as the TV, I really don't want this high pitch noise in my room whenever the TV is off.

Anyone have similar problems? Will I have to send it back for a replacement?
Thanks

Mine doesn't make a noise when in standby...but is yours noisier than you'd expect when on? Mute the speakers and see...mine's noisier than my HTPC (not that it's noticeable when the sound is on).

Had the exact same problem with my 32" R74

Unfortunately the e-tailer that I bought the unit from in April had a cheeky £50 'diagnosis fee' if they found that nothing was wrong with it.

Because it was a fairly trivial but very annoying issue (and also because not everyone in my house could hear it) I decided to avoid going back to the place I purchased it from as it would have involved a hefty courier charge and also potentially another £50...

So I called Samsung tech support who took the units serial number and date of purchase over the phone. They then arranged for one of their approved engineers to come out and look at the set.

Lo and behold the engineer said he couldn't hear the whine :D but I didn't budge and insisted he took it away with him. The firm did eventually find a fault and repaired the unit free of charge, only took about a 2 week turnaround...

My advice: Get it sorted via Samsung

Well, ill try the retailer first (They are a big name) and then Samsung.

There is a noise when it is on, but it is more of a hum, and It is much less annoying even though its louder, the high pitch noise is just damn annoying.

Yep, anytime the TV was on standby it would drive me nuts however strangely my girlfriend could never hear it same as the engineer

Good luck getting it fixed fella.

They are bringing a new one on Monday and replacing it.

Maybe it is just the TV, but it's a free exchange so if the new one does it ill just switch it off at the mains each time (pain in the arse)

Sorry to ressurect this, but thought I would warn people who are thinking of purchasing one of these. I got it replaced, and it has exactly the same noise.

Im not sure why Samsung don't let you turn it off altogether without having to switch it off at the plug, which I will have to do from now on, which is annoying because my current setup means that it also turns a lot of other stuff off at the same time.

Other than that, I love the TV.

I have the same problem , noise thats , only I can hear it, and over the past year have learned to live with it( at first I'd get up to unplug it from the wall)

I took it back to the retailer (well the power supply that is as thats what was making the noise) but the swapped out item made the niose still but was a little quieter so I stuck with it.

I would say that all electrical equipment makes noise. some of it only men can hear, just us being picky eh!

bullit

Yeah I reckon so, it's actually coming from the TV though, not sure if the power supply is in the tele, but you know the slats on the back where all the heat comes from, its coming from there.

Ill probably just learn to live with it :)
