Just flashed my P5B deluxe wifi from the 0614 bios to the 0804 bio and everything seemed to work fine apart from when it rebooted it wouldn't post.

I have 2GB of Geil 6400 Low latency if this makes any difference.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I've taken the ram out and i get a continuous beeping so I think it might be some incompatabilities with the ram and Mobo. The only problem is that I havent got any spare ram to try it with.

no I get nothing.

I've been searching the internet for an answer and the general consensus that I am getting is that the 0804 bios has a 1.8v default ram voltage and my Geil ram will only boot at 2.1v.

So i think i need to go down to a computer shop and buy the cheapest stick of DDR2 ram so that I can boot into the bios and change the voltage to 2.1v for my Geil.

I suppose this is another vote against the Geil ram :(

Its always worth a try. :)

Is the suggestion I have made plausable? Could one Bios have a different default ram voltage to another? or could a certain type of ram be compatible with different Bios'?

clear cmos this happened to me 0804 contains new features over 0614 which means it will not boot after flashing from 0614 - 0804 which means you need to clear cmos, hope this helps.

I'd already tried that mate and I've just tried it resetting the cmos again and it hasn't worked.

I thinks its the Ram. Theres been talk of it being a bad batch of Geil ram. (its the "this week only" set from last week)

I'm going to RMA the Ram. The problem is its Christmas so I might not be able to get a new lot until January.

I don't get it, was working fine, flashed BIOS, now its buggered, so RMA'ing Ram which worked before the flash, sounds like a bad flash and you killed the board to me.

I've got the same board and ram, and the only time I have to raise the memorys voltage (from 1.8 to 2.1)

is when I run the ram at 1:1, I also didn't have any problems flashing to 0804.

On the asus website there are 2 links to download the 0804 bios, the 1st link is for the the P5B DLX/NONE WIFI,

and the 2nd link is for the P5B DLX/WIFI, are you sure you chose the right one ?

Good Luck.

Does the board post as far as the bios? Is there any error code bleeped (don't forget to connect a case speaker!).

It does sound more like the board than the ram to me.

If you do have a local shop or buddy with a generic DIMM, you could have them post the MOBO for you. If it will post, just have them set the bios to 2.1v Vdimm, and take it home. Unless you have to clear CMOS again, you'll be fine assuming your MOBO survived the flash. I guess the key is, do you have anyone that can help you out with either a compatible DDR2 MOBO to test your Geil or a generic DIMM to post the MOBO?

ITS NOT THE RAM!!!

I dont think the RAM is at fault because...

I've just tried to boot my motherboard using a generic 256mb stick of ram and the same thing happens as with my Geil

Basically the mobo powers on for a second, turns off, then powers on with the video card fan going at max rate indefinitely, no beeps and no input to the monitor.

I've tried reseting the Bios using the jumper and taking out the battery as the manual says. I've even tried turning the mobo on with no cpu in, to reset the mobo to factory settings.

I'm going to ring Asus in the morning but if anyone has any ideas I would be grateful :)

I dont see how it could have been a bad flash (I used the EZBios from within the bios and a USB memory stick with the file on) and I used the correct file. Everything seemed ok as well because the motherboard reset it self.

Try this:

Clear the CMOS, remove the battery
Revert to the previous BIOS flash
Clear the CMOS, remove the battery
Flash the latest BIOS

I remember this is what another user did and this solved it.

Here's a quote from another user:

All the reviews I've read tell you right - this is a great board and good for overclocking. I won't bother writing a comprehensive review because you're capable of doing a search on google, but I just wanted to warn people of a little problem I had...

When updating the BIOS from version 0614 to version 0804, you restart and there are problems. There's a CMOS error, and the board thinks you've tried to overclock. To solve this I switched off AC power, restarted, and rolled back the BIOS from a USB memory drive using the flash util in the BIOS. I then powered down, put the CMOS jumper on pins 2 + 3 to reset, and took out the CMOS battery. I then replaced the battery, moved the jumper back to the usual pins 1+2, and powered back up.

I know this isn't unusual to have to do this, but I was thrown because the manual seems to suggest this type of fiddling won't be necessary - but be assured it is!

This isn't a major complaint, I'd still rate the board very highly, but after spending £800 on the computer it did scare the **** out of me for half an hour ;)

I RMA'd the board and used the same method to flash it when I got a new board and it worked fine. Didn't even have to rest the CMOS with the jumper.

So I just think it was a bad board.

With the dodgy board there was no way to access the memory stick to roll back the bios.
