Hey there guys...

I have the following setup:

X2 4800 @ 2.8ghz, BFG 8800GTS, 2GB Ballistix and a 19" VX912B.

I'd love a bigger monitor... and widescreen is what Im after.

I have just seen the 24" Dell dropping to a little over £500 which seems amazing!! Now that the price is so good shall I jump on it or is it worth considering a 22" panel?

I dont want to buy either and then "wish" I had made a different choice! I assume that no other 24" comes close to price/performance?

I assume the Dell is good with 1:1 mapping so if my gfx card becomes second rate I can drop the res on my games?

please help me decide?!

Thanx ;)

Get the Dell 2407, you really really really won't regret it. Your 8800GTS will run everything you throw at it without a problem , I know my 7900gt only struggles with FEAR when I put it on 4xAA :D

No point getting a 22" really as the res is the same as a 20" and are those 2" really going to make a massive difference? I dont honestly think so

2407 is brilliant monitor not only because of the size but the increase in res also

Spunking £500 on a panel is serious money! Another £350 and you can have a Panasonic 42" plasma panel for your wall!

I couldn't really justify more than £300 on a PC panel - even though I have the space!

And as for the 30"

and whats the resolution of the 42" plasma??? ......1024*768 I believe

Completely different display types for (mainly) different apps - so its incomparable really ... otherwise people would be buying 32" HDTV's for their desk instead of 24" Dell's (and the like) but the resolution isnt as good - by a long way :D

plasmas are not really suitable for PC use. as posted above their native res is 1024 x 768.

basically HDMI overscans terribly, and VGA will produce tearing. have a look at this thread on avforums for more info

very very tempted to get one tonight then lads... then it will be here before new year ;)

Ill defo stick with the 24" over the 22" it think....

I have always been cautious of getting 24" as Id hate to HAVE to upgrade gfx every time a game came out but these 8800 seem to be amazing at that res?!

Well, by that logic apart from an increase in resolution, there's no reason to get a 24" over a 22" :) In fact some gamers with weaker graphics cards might view the higher native resolution as a slight negative.

Don't forget that 22" cost under half the price of 24" or thereabouts... an extra £250-300 is quite a lot to pay for a rez bump. Whereas the difference in price between 20" and 22" is very small.

Until such time as prices change, 19" and 22" screens will continue to sell because they are significantly cheaper than the next size up. The only reason I got a TFT was because prices finally became competitive with CRT - I'm not the type to drop over half a grand on a computer peripheral.

Bah, I blew £1300 on a 23" Sony Widescreen TFT 2 or 3 years ago and it was the sexiest £1300 I ever spent!

I haven't used a 22" myself, but from having the 23" Sony and the 2405 and 2407 Dell's I can say that if you do get one, just like the others say, you so won't regret it :). I would only consider the 'lesser' ;) screens if the response time was amazingly better. Even then, I haven't noticed any response time-related problems on the 2407.

Good man! you wont be dissapointed, ive just sold my 2 and they were the best screens ive had! didnt regret it at all..

*awaits delivery of Dell 3007WFP*
