Just received my new Crucial today, ive fitted it but there seems to be some problems.
My system doesn't seem to be stable any more, ie i'm having crash's in games that just never happened before, and its had a little problem booting 1 or 2 times.
In the BIOS, both sticks are recognised, i've set them to the default ratings of 3,3,3,8 (This is what i've found on these forums anyways). I initially left them set at auto, but then had a little tinker when this stability issue reared its ugly head. Also, the BIOS only has limited choices when it comes to DRAM voltage, i have AUTO, LOW, NORMAL & HIGH, but it doesn't state anywhere what voltage is put out at these settings.
Anyway, system in sig, but was absolutley fine before i changed the RAM.

Thanks for any help guys.

your motherboard doesnt like much DDR-2 RAM. just as it doesnt like PCI-e graphics cards.

i'm assuming you've moved from DDR1 - PC3200 ram?

that would be my initial guess, and it might take a long while to sort out. ive read a lot about it in the motherboard section as i was going to get one as a stopgap to get on the conroe ladder, but after reading how many people have issues with it i decided not to.

Yes, i moved from PC3500. So do you know how to sort the problem?, or have i got to live with it? pretty major problem if i've got to live with it :(

read through the thread in the motherboard section (its on the first page) and see what people are suggesting in there as its pretty flaky when it comes to newer kit being put into it as obviously its more suited to older stuff.

i cant help you directly with it as ive opted out of getting that motherboard.

good luck :(

are those errors with you running the RAM at the "High" voltage setting (the ram is speed to need 2.2V)? I've been trying to find out what those settings mean for DDR2 with no luck, and was hoping to get that RAM for the same mobo until i go for something like the DFI RD600.....

If it isnt stable at 3-3-3-8 at 266mhz on HIGH voltage, maybe try 4-4-4-12 as some of the other Crucial ram spec-ed for that speed runs at those latencies, or even 5-5-5-15 if that doesnt work?

You are already running DDR2-667 ram at DDR2-533 (though with 5-5-5-15 you might get DDR-667 stable), so you sure as hell wont end up with the performance you paid for, but if you plan on upgrading mobo/gfx any time soon that wont be a massive issue as long as you can get it stable.

Yes, that board was totally an interim thing, but i may not be able to upgrade that till the start of march, so obviously i could do with it stable for the next 8 or 9 weeks.
I will try some slower timings.

Right, just set the timings to 4-4-4-12 on HIGH voltage setting, and started a memtest. Lets see what it comes up with.

FAILED! it got to 6.2% coverage this time though (1.2% first time).
Slackened off to 5-5-5-12, trying again.

Ok, its been memtesting for ~35mins, got to 23% coverage. Does this sound promising to you guys?

not too bad, but errors can happen at any time...... you using the windows MemTest? If so try increasing the amount of ram it is testing next time, because mine normal runs a lot faster than that (normaly set 1/2-3/4 of my ram to test)

I usually let memtest run until about 150% coverage during an initial overclock, but for full stability I let it run overnight....I've had errors at over 500% before. :/

Well, it got to 2hrs and 53% coverage without errors, so i stopped it to do some gaming & didn't have any problems. I've put it on again now and shall leave it on till the morning.
I set it to test all unused RAM, is this ok?

with my 1GB of DDR i normally set to 768MB and leave it for a bit..... doesnt normally take anywhere near 2hrs for 100% though, that ma be due to the 2GB?

I normaly consider anything over 250% to be "stable" for day to day use, though i generally run a long Orthos test to finish with.

Glad it seems to be working though.... i might not have to Vmod my board to get it running if i order some, which is good to know!

Something very wrong there...for a start you should be using 2 instances of memtest for 2GB, don't you get a popup when you try to run it telling you to open another instance and set them to 8xxMB each?...And 50% coverage takes well under 10mins for me, also using the same Crucial RAM.

Well i didn't see anything in the Manual for it that says to run 2 instances of it so i've been running 1, and the only popup i've had is one saying it's ready to start.
What is the advantage gained in running 2? I'm not being funny, i've never used it before until today.

This is what I get when I click start...
