Well, we're nearly there; 2007 is minutes away and I'm thinking of resolutions lol :p

Up until now I've been using Dreamweaver as my main web authoring tool. I do some coding myself but most of it is generated by Dreamweaver. However, lots of people seem to think that Dreamweaver is complete rubbish.
Thus I'm thinking that I should ditch Dreamweaver and start hand-coding all of my pages.
I should mention that my preferred language is PHP with MySQL

P.S. Anyone who thinks I should ditch Dreamweaver, could you please link me to apps that are useful to the almighty hand-coders :D

Ditch it!

I use notepad both for my personal site and at work (on Windows boxes) and Vi on Unix ones *shudder*. Many people seem to get along with Notepad++ which adds syntax highlighting and what not.

If you like PHP and MySQL then you must be used to the code views, interpreting what its doing as you look at the words.. just put dreamweaver into code view and it turns into a useful tool that will auto-generate the code you dont want to be typing a thousand times and can validate it for you too..

Just dont use dreamweaver to generate your entire site.. or the design view too much.. its not even great for checking how it will look because its often wrong.. use the actual browsers you want to test for in order to see how it looks..

Dreamweaver 8 is fine.. IF YOU USE IT PROPERLY.. you have to religiously use its CSS Designer and its insert div tags feature. Combine this with some XHTML and it will generate valid code! :D

People say dreamweaver is crap because they dont know how to use it properly.

If you use it badly... your html code will be a giant mess of non validating code.
And you can make templates with dreamweaver and use Notepad++ for some real php coding :) All the code samples you ever need are in the PHP Manual.

PSPad or Notepad++ ;)

As above Dreamweaver is fine provided you know how to use it. It has some great features like finishing your code off, preview, in-built validator etc.

Although i've recently started using skEdit which has all of the advantages of Dreamweaver over Notepad++ et al and more, with none of the drawbacks.

It's only for mac though.
