Hey folks,

In Nov I left my job in sales for an auditor style role, it did not work out at all, and I left after 3 days.

The company I worked for was going through a management restructure, so I let that go til Dec as my old manager lost his job.
I enquired about having my old job back, with the new person who will be in charge, and he said he'd get back to me.

He didn't so I called today only to be told due to a restructure in the sales force it makes no sense to take anyone on :( regardless of experience in the job (I'd done it for 5 years). And to call if things become settled after the restructure (ie after April)

Im gutted, I really wanted the job again after realising the mistake i'd made by leaving. It was absolutely perfect hours wise, location etc

:(

gutted for you, however I know people who have gone back to their old company after leaving and it wasnt the same for them and they left again, if you leave... leave... I think employers frown upon people leaving for better jobs

I didn't like the sales element, but I liked the small group I worked with, the hours were to suit (4 days) inc Saturday.

So gutted about it, it's horrible, I can't believe I left.

Yea it was my old job I wanted back.

I don't know how I'll find anything that lets me work 4 days (inc Sat) and pays reasonably well for it (Around £12k for 4 days).

so you earn around £3k a day.

riiiiiiiiiiiight..............

I was really hoping I could go back, being unemployed over xmas was no fun, but I thought there might be a light at the end of it.

Now it seems Im gonna be destined to be taking a job I will hate just for the sake of it.

bad luck, just goes to show that sometime "better the devil you know" when you make a life changing decision, like changing jobs, you shoudl really be sure about.

On the plus side with 5 years experience, you should be in a prime position to get a similar job with somebody else.

I would avoid putting the "new" job on the CV. leaving after 3 days could really come back to haunt you in the future

12k / pa makes far more sense now :---D

Just dont put it on your CV, and it'll be like it never happened, you dont have to declare your previous employer on your P45. With 5 years sales experience, you shouldn't have too much difficulty finding another job in sales.

With my employers it depends on the reason you leave if they have you back or not, if its for a better job or more money they won't as you'll still long for a better job or more money when the boredom sets back in if they do, on the other hand if its to look after a sick family member or similar and they either get better or pass away the will as the original problem for you leaving has gone away.

The manager at the old job would probably be worried that if a better offer came along you'd leave again. Sorry to hear what's happened and I hope it works out.

yeah, you have almost certainly burned that bridge.

Only thing you can do, is get up, curse yourself a couple of times and hen go look for something new

Sales is sales...pick a product/ market you have a genuine interest in and go cold call them, don't just wait for adverts in the paper.

1) Prepare the call - Find out a bit about the company and their 'proposal'

2) Emphasis - " Thanks for taking my call, I know you will be busy BUT..."

3) Close - "Do YOU think I would be suitable for a job with you etc etc "

Good luck, stay positive but sometimes change is the best thing ever!!
