Wow what can I say, I just put a couple of these badboys inside the Macbook today and man, the difference is amazing. Running 512mb is a real bottleneck on this system and everything responds so much quicker now, switching between apps, loading times of Office applications is now a couple of seconds, instead of an awkward wait. Photoshop also opens up pretty sharpish.

I went for the Kingston modules, cost me £130 and is totally worth every penny.

£130 for 2GB :o

Gotta get me some of that action. I declined getting 2GB when I bought mine because apple wanted £240! (And the crucial site recommends ram that was £210!)

sweet, looks good, recently upgraded the RAM on my iBook. Had a good effect on the speediness of my lappy :)

that RAM was bought in the states by the looks of it, so no wonder it only cost £130!

You made a good purchase there :)

My MBP runs 2GB and its a flying machine! Can't imagine 512MB

Yeah I bought 2Gb for my MBP before I actually got it, Apple wanted £320 for it tho so did it myself from Crucial for £180, It defiantly flies!

Good choice. I started with 1GB in my MBP. Chugged a long nicely but I felt it was only fair to put 2GB in there.

It's quite amazing how much ram can make a difference with OS X. My uncle has a MBP with 512mb ram and it was so slow and kept freezing and jerking, compared to my Cousins MB with 1gb ram!

My Mac Mini has 512MB and it definately struggles, when that was my only machine though I didn't really notice it much. I now have a MacBook with 1GB and it seemed so quick. Then my girlfriend got an iBook with 768MB and it seemed just as fast as my MacBook. So does 1GB --> 2GB make any difference?

My 2GB set arrives on Friday!

I'm getting the Crossair stuff though, paid £150 inc delivery.

I'm really hoping it does increase the performance! Did a simple wavelet decomposition on a 15000+ data set yesterday, least to say the 512MB certainly held things back a little!

My 2.0 C2D Macbook with 2GB arrived at lunch time today. I think I paid around £119 for the 1GB->2GB Apple upgrade. Less that 2GB would have cost and I don't have the hassle of selling the 2x512MB the 1GB versions come with. I've only played with it for 10 minutes but I'm impressed so far. Connected to my WLAN automatically out of the box just prompting for password, took my photo, downloaded the updates...

Now, what to do with the Deskjet 5940 that came with it?

Print? :p

I opted for the Photosmart C3100 and was very impressed with the results, so decided to keep it for uni rather than donate it to my family :D

EDIT: On a more serious note, how about a Rasterbation?

i know the feeling of having macs with 512mb ram, some at uni use them, when i bought my MBP 17", it was like a dream machine.

You can get 2gb for as little as £108inc delivery but I opted for Kingston because it's a brand I know and its only £22 more.

My new C2D 2.16ghz with 1GB seems to fly, only been playing on it for afew hours now! Waiting for CS3 to come out so will probably wait to upgrade to 2GB then :)

Office for mac really is a totally new application! Before, it would take forever just to open up word with a new blank document, now its really swift. Just been playing around with Photoshop CS and its very quick too. Why the hell did I put up with 512mb honestly!

Due to impending student loan, and a thread very similar to this on another forum I read, I caved in and splurged £150 on some good branded stuff. Curse you!

do you use any programs on the macbook what use the graphics atall?
torn between macbook 2ghz 2gb ram, or macbook pro with same spec :E
£300 for graphics card and larger hard drive
