....I´m really disappointed with my new powercolor x1950 pro 512mb card because it crashes most of the time when I run a benchmark or (try to) play a game.
It´s as if the card is overheating, because just before the screen freezes, I get lots of artifacts. I know about the bad vrm cooling of the card, but srtangely I could "only" read 70 C when a crash occurs, and that´s not a temp that should do any harm.
Anyone else with the same problem or possible solutions?

No, I didn´t try 6.11, but I will. I´m a bit sceptic, however, cause to me it seems like a hardware problem, not software. And right now I´m using 6.12, so I´d be surprised if an slightly older driver version can help.

But i´ll try and keep you informed.
 
Ozzie has linked to my thread on the problem, gamadeuss. Seems to be exactly the same as yours.

I actually read less heat on the core (60) when my card crashes. My RMA is going in tomorrow, going for a direct replacement - see if I can't get a good one.

Yea, my GPU also reads about 60 when it crashes. Thw VRM doesnt get that much higher though.....it just seems that these cards are of poor quality. Maybe i´ll just return it and go for the 8800, then at least I´ll safe myself from further headheaches (and money :))

Doesn't seem to be a good way to save money! ;)

Seriously though, what is your system? what graphics card did u use before? did you remove the old drivers properly, is your case really hot or cool? have u tried the card in another machine?
 
I´ve had no issues with my old x850 xtpe. And I know my way around when it comes to computers, so I guess I´ve done everything properly that is there to do....I´d like to try the card in another computer, but I have none here at the moment, that´s the problem, cause I´d like to send it back tomorrow. However, considering that I´m not the only one with the problem, I think it wont make much difference.

BTW 6.11 doesn´t help either.
 
Two quick things, take out the X1950 and reseat it and check the power plug, secondly what is your PSU and how old is it? (PSU do weaken over time).

I've been playing around with a Power-Colour X1950 Pro and really like it?
 
Ive just replaced my 7900 GS with a HIS X1950 Pro, and ive noticed 2 lockups/crashes in 1 week so far. I had the 7900 GS for 2 months and was rock solid, but the ATI is a little suspect. Once in Prey, and once in FEAR, but Ive been running these games hard since and no more crashes yet. I can loop 3dmark06 many times and if goes through perfect.

I will be monitoring the situation.
