My geil won't run @850mhz on it's 4,4,4,12 optimal timings. The motherboard sets it at a default of 5,5,5,18, if I change it to this speed, it runs fine @850. Is there a middle ground in terms of timings that is a little faster than the latter, but still means it runs fine?

Have a play between 4-4-4-12 and 5-5-5-15.

Or try upping the voltage to 2.2v.

It's only rated to 4-4-4-12 to 800MHz. It is almost certainly the CAS figure that is the hold-up so try 5-4-4-15 or 5-4-4-12.

Also - what's the problem with 5-5-5-18 or 5-5-5-15? It's worth about 0.1sec in SuperPi, that's all.

All sorted now, Cob suggested I change the divider to 8X, that gives me 800MHZ speed and 4,4,4,12 timings, which is magic!

I cannot lower the divider on my board and so I am running my memory at 890MHz. Mine won't do 4-4-4-12 at this speed so I have got them set to 5-5-5-15.

Is it worth trying to tighten these timings up a bit or is the performance increase minimal especially with regards to gaming? I'm not into SuperPi.

I don't think you'll notice the difference. Leave it ! I just like mine at the quoted times, because it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling  But unless you are looking at benchmarks, the difference is negligible.

It's somewhere between 0.1 and 0.2sec in 1m places of SuperPi. Very, very little.
