E6600 and 680i - too hot?

My newly built rig has an E6600 and 680i board, all at stock with zero OC. In TAT it's running 46-52c idle and 70+ at load.

Is this too high? If so, how much too high? Any hints? I've got a Freezer 7 Pro here to replace the stock fan, will this reduce my temps to reasonable level?

Anyone know what a reasonable set of temps for this rig should be? idle and at load?

thanks for any help, im a bit of a newbie so any hints are much appreciated.

cheers

I'm guessing a stock E6600 should only get to about 40-45ºC under load, maybe a little higher, but anywhere near 70ºC is really far too hot. :( General rule of thumb is not to let these processors go above 60ºC under load when overclocked, so stock should be much cooler than that.

have you set your cpu cooler up correctly in bios ?

i set mine to 100% at 51 c and 70% at 40 c

its in there somewhere under system monitor menu/dynamic fan control

I would say aim for about:

35-45 idle

50-55 load

From coretemp/TAT.

That is what I run my E6600 at 3.2ghz.

what he said, the 6600s seem to run hotter than the 6300 and 6400 so around 40 idle, around 50 load +/- 5 or 6 degrees

Every cpu is different in what temp it runs at. I had an 28A E6600 that ran a lot cooler than my current 32A E6600. The IHS on the conroe cpu's are very inconsistant. Sounds like that could be your problem - a crappy IHS.

Thanks chaps. fitted my arctic 7 pro and I'm getting 30-35 idle 45-50 load.

Thanks again, I really wouldnt have known my temps where high without your valuable advice

When I removed the stock fan, you could see only half of the paste had made contact. gulp! a lucky escape i think......

cheers
