British Military Fitness

Hi,

So I joined:-

http://www.britmilfit.com/

and do the classes in Cambridge and I have to say I've been really enjoying it.

Having the instructors there and a big group of people spurs you on to do the exercises etc. They include some games like British Bulldog and split you into teams and generally try and make it interesting and fun!

Went last night and even though it was only just above freezing a pretty dark it was great, the other people doing it are always a laugh and there is real encouragement for those who are a little more unfit than the rest.

They break you into Groups:-

Green Bibs = You're an iron man/women
Red Bibs = You're pretty fit
Blue Bibs = You're not fit

and they change the exercises accordingly.

The first session if free so you can go along and see what it's like.

I can honestly say I've never had so much fun exercising, running around doing lots of star jumps, push ups, burpees, squat thrust etc. They also spend at least 10 minutes making sure you warm up/cool down properly meaning you don't tend to hurt youself!

Just so much better than the gym, you speak to the other people and they help you with the exercises and everybody is encouraged. Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer them.

Great stuff! :)

(thread resurection)

just found out about this, you still going ?

anyone else been to this as im thinking to give it a go. ?

I heard about BMF a few weeks back through a friend, going to give it a go soon and see what its like :)

Going to revive this old thread, anybody else here go to BMF?

These are my Fitness Test Results from:-

April 07 (when I was a blue bib)

1.5km Run 7min 41sec
Press ups 46 reps (in 2 mins)
Sit ups 40 reps (in 2 mins)
Burpees 30 reps (in 2 mins)
Shuttle run 94 secs

then August 08, which makes me a green bib (in with the horribly fit people)

1.5km Run 6min 33sec
Press ups 70 reps (in 2 mins)
Sit ups 56 reps (in 2 mins)
Burpees 35 reps (in 2 mins)
Shuttle run 86 secs

The exercises are as many as you can do in two minutes, pretty happy with 70 press ups :) Not so happy with my run time but you have to make sure you don't kill yourself as you do all the exercises after the run, it was a one minute improvement over my previous time though!

Biggest factor for me is I still love going, been doing it since Jan 07 now and even the bad weather doesn't put me off, it's actually really good fun going outside and getting all muddy!

Probably lost about 13 kilos and feel as fit as I did when I was 25 (actually probably fitter), I'm now probably one of the oldest people there at 38. I try to go three times a week if at all possible but obviously sometimes "life" get it the way!

Good fun and great for those that find the gym too boring, check out you area and go for a free trial, you won't regret it :)

Anyone do the Newcastle one? :D I think I'll give it a go. Probably a lot more fun than the gym.

It's on:-

Monday @ 19:00
Thursday @ 19:00
Saturday @ 10:00

it's £38.00/pm, I pretty much try and turn up for all three so it's about £3 per session.

Thanks, was hoping it would be a little cheaper, what with football, kickboxing and judo every week not sure i can manage another £40 quid just on fitness. It would cut into my beer fund which is unacceptable ;). I'll stick to the jogging for now.

I'm thinking about going to this on a Saturday morning from January onwards. I know a few people who have done it before and swear by it (although most give up when winter comes).

I actually prefer it in the winter, you get so damn hot, as they say "if it ain't raining it's not training".

I find I push myself much harder when training, running with a group, I've seen people literally run themselves so hard they've been sick (not something you often see in the gym). The instructors are supportive but they don't push you too hard, it's you own competitiveness with other people.

It's weird when running you don't want to be the last in, you obviously never want to be beaten by a girl ;) , you tend to find somebody that's around your level of fitness and you spur each other on to go faster and faster and do more and more reps.

Yeah, that's what I'm looking forward too.

I was running along the Thames Path at 8 on a sunday morning in the absolute ******* rain a couple of weeks ago, I'd done 10k and had another 7k to go and all I could think was "I love this".

I've turned into one of those people I used to think were insane.

I've got to a point were the weather just doesn't bother me, you're never ever cold and you usually end up literally steaming with sweat dripping off your nose.

Just so much more fun than training in the gym, people are great as well, really friendly (well in my experience).
