I bought Windows Vista ultimate OEM on pre order and wasnt expecting to upgrade for another 6 or so months...

however I activated it 2 weeks ago on my MSI K8N Neo 2 Plat mobo.

Then last week I came into some money so i ordered all new PC.

Asus p5N-E and Intel core duo 2 6600 and 8800 GTX graphics and some new memory.

I was scared that now I had my new hardware i would have to go and spent another £130 on vista ultimate having using got 2 weeks use from it...

Yes fool me

However....

Installed all my new stuff today, Vista askes me to activate windows again... Oh my gosh im thinking at this point...

then i click the activate via phone button

call the number...

Asian women answers and striaght out asks me for the code on the screen..

I read it out...

instantly she relays a code back to me ans asks me to type it into the box's....

click next

WALLAH! activated.. the only question she asked me was to read the code off the screen, VERY made up :D so people... dont fear :D

Same for me, though i had just installed it clean twice on the same machine i rang thru twice and punched in the numbers. Cut off once and the other woman just gave the new code..

:) smug me :)

lol

Activated maybe, legal nope :( simple as mate.

I had the same thing when i activated my vista upgrade this morning had to call up and didnt get asked any questions just the first 6 digits.

Get of your high horse mate. I dont think even MS would care about 2 weeks use before changing mobo.

If they didn't care they wouldn't make it explicitly against the EULA.

You do gooders make me sick. I bet you've lent someone a DVD which is illegal too.

If MS are that bothered then they would enforce it better.

The eula is only an agreement not a law and not even a written one at that.

An agreement that allows you to use the right to use some software. Without the licence you are committing copyright theft, which is illegal.

They're trying, it's a huge logistical challenge to make it work properly. Anyway, what about you're moral obligations?

He changed his pc after 2 weeks, give him a break, he didnt mug an old lady ya know.

It's not the point. If there was a chance of an upgrade, he should have bought retail or another OEM licence.

it was after only 2 weeks give him a break. Plus as has been said they gave him a new code and he did not break the eula as he was not asked any questions therefore did not lie. They chose to reactivate him and he did not lie - therefore it is legal and morally fine.

When I went into Tesco's the other day, no one asked me any questions when I slid the bumper pack of bacon into my inside pocket. They let me leave the store without stopping me and I did not lie - therefore it is legal and morally fine.
