Hi there,

With my 8800 arriving very soon I am considering the move to Vista as my 8800 will have full DX10 support there. I had thought that moving to Vista when a service pack was available would have been a more sensible option but I'm just wondering what you guys think of it?

Are you having many problems, bugs, compatibility issues?

Thanks in advance

I bought Vista Ultimate Retail. I have had a roller coaster of a ride with it. I have gone through various stages are jubilation and despair. At first I thought the price was high for what it was. After taking the plunge regardless I thought it was the best thing since sliced bread. Coming up to a month after buying it I am still dual booting. It's good, and it is better than XP. After reflecting on my purchase for a while now and with the benefit of hindsight I would not purchase Vista if I had a 2nd chance. Personally I would wait until SP1 comes out. (Quite possible before my graphic card drivers are due out)

If you want an opinion on Vista from a Linux/OSX fan then the following is a good read. Of course being a Linux/OSX guy he comes down a bit heavy, but I had to agree with a considerable amount of what he says. And it sort of hit home that I might have been taken in with all the hype.

i dont know what all the fuss is about, i've got the premium 32 bit version and everything works fine, every game, program, driver etc etc has worked perfect from day 1 and even though its only been out for 3 weeks(thanks to oc for getting it early) its much smoother and a lot more stable than xp. but i might just be one of the lucky ones who've had no problemx :)

installed Ultimate, had it running for 4 days, uninstalled and gone back to WIndows Media Center 2005. Had no problems with hardware or software except i use Media Center a lot with my 360 and although Vista looks better certain aspects and support for streaming codecs that work in WMC XP ain't to hot atm in Vista. I will give it another year i think when things mature as i cannot be without streaming my xvids and divx and other codecs that vista is causing problems with at the moment

Premium 32 bit version worked from day one.
Epson scanner was the only problem, but have now got that running in winxp mode.

So are there any timescales for when the SP's for Vista will come out and what will be included in them? E.G. The stuff that was missed out to meet the release date

I have had vista since day 1 of the first beta, Its the best os i have ever used. And don't have any problems with it!

After using Vista for 2 weeks, my opinion is that it's not yet quite ready - more of a late beta feel to it. Definitely many 3rd party suppliers are nowhere near ready. I still have issues with cameras, printers, anti-spyware software, payroll software, scanning, accounting software...... :(
