Why was the thread closed?

The thread was relevant to quite a few users and is still an outstanding issue - is it because some people had suggested dissatisfaction at Overclockers?

I was just about to post the comments below as a follow up to my previous comments:

=======================================

Well after the talk of VGA working, I came home tonight and tried the VGA cable again. I've spent the last 3 hours trying everything I can think off. The OSD will not budge from 1280x1024 either in VGA or DVI mode. I've set refresh down to 60Hz and played with the nvidia setup. No luck.

I'm concerned what you guys said about Samsung replacing with refurbished units. But then - this monitor is brand new, a refurb must therefore be brand new but with replaced/repaired parts. It can't be a used (or at least heavily used/soiled) unit. So maybe it's not so bad.

I'm dammed if I'm going to pay for courier both ways, so I think I will let Samsung sort it out for free as they should (...hands cupped in prayer...)

Arrrh - The final closing post by Baddass was not there when I started this new thread off.

Even so, not all of us were bad mouthing Overclockers... Free speech and all that ...

Okay i think i have somehting that helped me,

RefreshForce rate

http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rf/

And i went in to manage custom timmings and create a custom setting, 1680 x 1050 60hz and at the very bottom on the advance tab i set Active horizonal pixels to 1680 and Activve vertical lines 1050.

So far now these ideas are in my head.

Was it the reforce rate or the custom settings that i applyed to the nvidia timming settings? i have to do more testing.

Another idea is that this monitor works better with a graphics card that is HDCP??

okay go for it!

so far i am getting the full 1680 x 1050!!

I had a monitor that i thought was broken but when i test my bros Working! 226bw on my pc i had the same results of which i could not get 1680 x 1050, so i knew it was grahpics drivers.

ok will let you off then mate :)

let's keep this a thread about the monitor. If you've got problems with it then that's fine, but if this strays off into anti-ocuk comments by anyone i will have to close it i'm afraid

Bin Boy,

I rang Samsung and they said it was a known problem, like Overclockers told me. I don't think they would be ready to replace if there wasn't an issue.

So what's this utility your promoting - I'm extremely weary of downloading and running just any old exe. I think I will give it a miss. Anybody else got any thoughts?

Hi, have used that program for five years, but you don't need to download that program, I just needed to make manual timmings in nvidia control panel. ;)

NVidia scaling,

Nvidia timming setup, how it could/should look.

EDIT - nvidia control panel, display, manage custom timings, create, advanced, Timing standard, CVT reduced blank, test, exit.

NVidia resolution that can now be reached.

That certainly looks promising BinBoy, but I've got these problems on an ATI X1900XT, and sadly the Catalyst Control Centre doesn't seem to offer the same degree of options for custom resolutions/timings :(

I found a link to a program provided by Viewsonic that lets you download EDID data from any monitor, change it, and then re-upload it to the monitor. The website that I found it linked from claimed it could fix faulty EDID data, but it wasn't talking about the 226BW or any other monitor in particular. Anybody had any experience of this? Its mentioned on a section of the page linked to below...

Well it deffo allows me to get to the two screen settings 1600x900 and 1680x1050 that i couldn't get before, also the panel nfo is telling me am at 1680x1050 and so does properties/settings.

I have a feeling this could be to do with HDCP, am just guessing here but my bro didn't have a problem with his monitor on his 7950x2 but bringing his monitor to my pc didn't help either, so it is drivers, thats the bottom line, am on DVI with 1680x1050 yesterday i thought i was going to send this monitor back. :)

nvidia control panel, display, manage custom timings, create, advanced

Where is this option bin boy?

Im using latest 8800 GTX nvidia control panel...

I can see flat panel scaling options etc inside the display button but cant see anywhere the optino to create a resolution..

So, in summary, is it fair to say that all the weird resolution problems people are reporting IS a driver issue ??

there's been so much back and forth i have kind of lost track ...

I think that it's probably a teething issue with HDCP. I'm already looking to upgrade my antiquated X800 GTo2...

What do you think? Any ideas for a decent, low cost solution to my problem. I'm borrowing a 7300 LE my boss just bought to check it out. I think Nvidia have better driver customisation... Although those connect3d 1950 cards look excellent and come well recommended (custom pc).

Any help would be appreciated.

Just along the top of the NVidia Control Panel at the top below the help is Standard View and Advanced View - select advanced.

Yeah i would agree to that, my card isn't HDCP and this monitor is, maybe if i was running windows vista i might not have had this problem, its like HDCP better, right? So the next card i get will be HDCP so i think there is a problem with the nvidia drivers not recognizing a HDCP monitor on a non-HDCP video card?

And badass please think about editing the title to this thread, it's saying closed!

that was referring to the fact the old thread was closed due to shop moaning. edited this one for you now

Hi folks. I hope someone can help me here. It's my 42nd birthday on Friday and I've been looking for a new monitor for the last couple of weeks. I had earmarked this monitor but now there seems to be rather a lot of problems with it. It's to replace a 19" Hansol CRT on a Windows XP Pro machine and as well as games I do a lot of image editing as I'm a keen amateur snapper. Am I right in assuming these resolution problems are down to the monitors compatibility with Vista and therefore I will have these problems as I'm running XP? Is this monitor any good with image editing? My wife and I also use this computer to watch the occasional DVD. Is it good for DVD's or are the viewing angles too restricive?

A lot of questions, I know, but if I order one today I might just get it in time for my birthday so any info would be most appreciated. I really don't want to buy one and then have to return it. I've used OCUK for ages and service has always been first class. I see no reason for this to change.

Thanks for listening and I look forward to any help forthcoming.

I ermmm might still be interested in one of these, but the plethora of problems reported has really dampened my enthusiasm.

I am running an agp ATI video card and an upgrade to an HDCP is NOT an option at this time.

I was specifically looking to the 226 as a future-proof type monitor -- it has hdcp, and i was going to slowly phase in the rest when i upgrade m/b, memory, go dual core etc.

now it seems i am left with 2 options.

either forget the whole roulette type thing and buy the belinea and to hell with hdcp or buy the sammy and if it has any problems just send it back and then buy the belinea.

actually theres an option 3- i could just get the dell 22".

Why cant things just work ??
