Hi,

Had my Dell for just over a week now and have noticed something thats starting to bug me. Basically you know the 'inner' black board round the screen, well on the left hand side of my screen its less than 1mm and on the right hand side there is a black inner boarder of about 3mm.

I have plugged it in Via VGA and moved the picture around but the boarder is always the same no matter what horizontal adjustments i make in moving the picture far over to the right.

Now i realise this is fairly minor (took me a few hours of staring at it to realise) - but if it was yours would you not even notice this sort of thing or would you be sending it back via the Dell onsite warrenty and get a new one? (i got mine off the bay)

Apart from that im happy with it and have no dead pixels etc, its also Rev 4, so would i want to risk getting a replacement and getting one with simlar little issues - do they have these little quirks?

Sorry about not showing a picture of my screen - the battery on my camera just died as i was trying to take a pic.

As long as you can see the full panel, I wouldn't be bothered by a tiny margin. I just checked mine, and the right margin seems a little larger than the left, but I could never notice this while gaming or browsing. I can't see this being accepted as a reason for rma.

I suppose everyone reading this thread will now check their margins, and some people will become aware of a 'problem' that they were previously oblivious to.

Well if its not just mine like that then its not a problem - i guess it just in the manufacturing of the screen. Gaming and stuff its fine... Maybe i am too picky for my own good and just want it 100% perfect, which might not be possible in this day and age... It might be good if i got out more :-)

Hehehe you will never get an 100% perfect LCD, they don't exist, its like the Holy Grail ;)

Looking at mine the right side is a fraction bigger than the left but its less than 0.5mm to be honest and not something I notice at all using the screen :) Although on mine the left side boarder gets slightly wider at the top lol. Maybe my screen is wonky ;)

Yours does seem to be out slightly more so I can see how you would get annoyed maybe if you keep looking at it all the time.

Yes i do keep looking at it which is my problem - in reality its not a problem, but just something my holy grail seeking brain has picked up on. It like the "is your monitor level" problem some people have - just varies from screen to screen.

How big are your boarders at each side on their widest point?

I turn the brightness on my monitor down today from 50 to 30 and have realised how much better blacks are now. Playing FEAR at brightness 50 just looks wrong now.

The monitor brightness is one of the things that I dont like on the Dell I am forever turning mine up and down to try and get decent blacks and decent whites. LOL

Mine also has a slight colour shift to the right, which is prolly a PVA panel thing and the fact the monitor is wide. Give me any LCD in front of me and I will find issues for you. ;)

My middle name is "picky"

But I am prepered to put up with what I have and live with it for now until some better technology comes along.

You're right and its the same with everything, especially cars, i can noticed the slightest new mark on my car within 5 seconds flat. Is amazing how everyone has one of these Dells now, i guess is cause the price is so good. Problem is now i can never go back to using a smaller screen.
