Ok well this isn't urgent in a "if I don't get the case this second my family will die a slow and agonising death" kind of way, but it's been eating me up for a few days now and I need some advice and opinions. Basically I am deciding between these two cases:

Silverstone TJ09 http://www.silverstonetek.com/products/tj09/tj09_spec.html

Reviews: http://www.neoseeker.com/Hardware/Products/silverstone_tj09/

PRO's

  • The slideable mobo tray is awesome, can remove it with a TT 120 fitted.
  • Cooling potential very good.
  • Numerous vents on the side of the case and also a mesh below the PSU to for it to draw in fresh air. Nice.
  • Will accept any size PSU.
  • Accepts 5x 120mm fans.
  • Looks make me want to do a sex-wee.
  • Excellent rigidity.

CON's

  • May be more subsceptible to dust due to the multiple vents.
  • May be a bit noisier than the Lian Li due to the vents being next to the HD's.
  • I'm not crazy about the HD setup, but it's only a minor gripe.
  • Cable routing may be tougher.
  • Not quite as tool-less as the Lian Li.

Lian Li PC-A10B http://www.lian-li.com/Product/Chassis/Middle_Tower/Classical_Series/M_C_S_PC-A10.htm

Reviews: http://www.neoseeker.com/Hardware/Products/lianli_pca10/ and here http://www.caseclosed.co.uk/review_lianli_pca10.htm

PRO's

  • Beautiful classic design and finish, oozes quality.
  • Good sound-proofing compared to the TJ09.
  • Looks very easy to work with.
  • Dual PSU! Doesn't fit larger PSU's though eg: Enermax Galaxy and considering i'll likely never use dual PSU's that could (will) be a problem for large single units.

CON's

  • Cooling may not be quite as good as the TJ09.
  • Has a door. I don't like doors, they just get in the way.

Now, both of these cases have their strong points and are VERY highly rated... in fact the Lian Li was the first case ever to receive a 10/10 from CASE.CLOSED (they haven't reviewed the TJ09 yet though). From the looks of things they are both made equally as well as each-other in terms of BQ, the only real differences are in functionality and design. Both are roughly £170 so price is not an issue.

I have actually just purchased an Enermax Galaxy 850w and I know the Lian Li will not fit this, but it's not really a problem as if I did get the Lian Li then i'd simply sell the PSU (I got it for a crazy cheap price so I will lose nothing) and buy one that does fit.

I am really stuck over which one to get... the TJ09 has some features I really like (the tray, well-placed vents), and definately has better cooling capacity (imo) than the Lian Li, whereas the Lian Li is better for sound-proofing and more user-friendly, and has a pretty much flawlessly functional design. I am leaning towards the TJ09 but the Lian Li really catches my eye too...

Please give valid reasons and try and be as objective as possible, no "because it's a Lian Li" posts please, weigh up all the pros and cons such as cooling, features etc.

Help me obi-wan forumobi, you're my only hope. :)

Come on guys I realise some of you must be a bit fed up with answering this sort of thing but i'd really appreciate a bit o' help as I want to order today or tommorrow if possible. :)

The only problem i can see with the PC-A10 is the PSU, it might be a little on the large side, what are its dimensions?

Great case though, very good cooling, sexy as hell, and built very solidly.

The only thing i will say is this...
If my brother sister or friend came to me and asked which case
to get i would say akasa eclipse everytime yes it has plastic front
but genius is always flawed.
*Fit in an Enermax Galaxy 850w.
*Fantastic build quality.
*Lots of room.
*The best airflow/cooling.
*Largely tool-less. gets a c+ here but what the hec.
*Practical design for component placement.
It passes all those requirements with an A+.
I bought mine about 2 months ago for £78 and can you believe it's
actually gone up in price how many other cases do you see the price going up.

PSU Dimensions: 150 x 86 x 220 mm.

Please don't tell me it's not gonna fit... *sigh*

Silverstone TJ09

No, doesnt look like it'll fit, especialy with cables.

You could always sell it and get 2xCorsair 520W, if you are that dead set on it.

How do you find this case overall in terms of cooling, space etc etc? ANy negatives? Major positives? :)

Cooling is very good,like the 120mm videocard fan,hd fan,two top 120mm and a rear 120mm.
Space is also very good, got room for anything you will ever need,it`s well worth the money, ive had a few Lian li`s and would buy the Silverstone TJ09 first overall if i had to get another case. :)

up.

Hmmm....the psu cage on the eclipse blocks about 40% of the Enermax's fan intake, a lot of this due to the fact the fan is off centre. So in my view the Eclipse will fit the Galaxy but poorly as cooling is compromised. For this reason I would *not* recommend this case to someone with a galaxy psu.

Is your case fully loaded with fans... how loud is it?

Eclipse/Mirage (I'd go mirage) and mod the PSU cage to fit.

I'm really not interested in those cases... seen them and they didn't set my world on fire. Much prefer to two I stated in my OP, despite the extra cost.

It's basically the Lian Li with a Silverstone DA750... or the TJ09 with the Enermax Galaxy.

would choose the TJ-09, but then Im a fan of all things SilverStone, and my current preference is to have a case without a door so that I can install a LCD display for the extra wow factor, bit pointless having one if its shut away out of view 90% of the time :)

edit - the Lian Li PC-A16 is worth a look, about the only case that would tempt me away from SilverStone atm.

Yep had my case fully faned up was really quiet, all depend`s on what fan`s you buy m8,best of all that videocard cooler kept that 8800gtx i sold you very cool. :D i ran one of the 120mm roof fans blowing into the case for extra cooling, seemed to work ok for me.

Will you be getting the case with a window in it?
Extra pimp point`s if you do.

I'll be using Akasa ambers mate. :)

Yeah, if I get the TJ09 then definately window. :)

Hmm just out of interest... would tights stretched over all of the grills do a lot for keeping dust to a minimum yet not restricting the airflow overmuch?

You will not need them,as most of the dust will go to the videocard fan, easy to wipe off every otherday.
In the hard drive bay there is a mesh grill on the floor so you can have the hd fan blowing downward out of the case.

But hey if tight`s do it for you then go ahead :D
