Online always works best for me. Dealing with Apple eliminates any hassle of resellers, also I'm pretty sure they don't offer better prices than Apple itself - that's not how Apple works.

Would deffo get your Macbook from Apple Online Store or Retail

The purple shirts always have out of date Apple hardware...

I actually bought mine from Selfridges as they had them on sale and I saved £150 over the Apple store about 500m away! (This was in Birmingham)

Other than that they seem to have the prices fixed pretty much everywhere

John Lewis has a good and cheaply extensible warranty compared to Apple.

However Apple has the Refurbished area of the store, which offers full warranty and significant discount on slightly older stock.

Apple also offers discounts for Education - so if you know any students - expect 17% off.

You can also pick up the warranty cheaply on fleabay.

Been thinking of getting one myself.

There's a website I found selling two macbook pro's, one 15.4" the other 17" screen. The 15.4" is £100 cheaper than rrp and the 17" is £200 cheaper, plus they give you a 300GB external HDD and an ipod nano (depending on availability, else it could be a shuffle).

Don't know if there any good though, maybe someone else knows who I'm talking about.

Don't think I'd be able to link to them, as they also sell other notebook/laptops.

If you don't mind a refurb model then you can save quite a bit through the apple store online. They still have warranties that you can extend. TBH I'd have gone that route had I known about it at the time.

Apparently it varies between universities. If you phone up you get the consistent 17%, or so I am told.

As to that deal with the external HDD and free iPod. If it has the Apple Warranty then I would consider that. Companies are not normally allowed to compete on Price, that is why most Apple Hardware is the same price all over the web... only the package extras with it tends to change. If they are offering it cheap; check that it is not old stock - i.e. Core Duos instead of Core 2 Duos.

The 2.0Ghz white macbook is normally £879 but with the HE student discount it is only £755. When I bought my MacBook I ordered it by connecteing to Uni using VPN and ordered it from the Apple HE website.

That said, Apple will only give student discounts on 'educational' products. I went to buy an iPod nano G2 dock from the Apple store in the Birmingham Bullring and it wasn't discounted so I walked about 20 meters over to HMV and saved £2 with a student discount.
