Ubuntu 7.04 - Feisty Fawn!

I just downloaded the ISO - gotta love Uni internet :D

Gonna try it out later. Most of the screenies are indistinguishable from 6.10, but I hear it's pretty different under the hood.

Have they recommended updating? Or is it like dapper -> edgy when they said only to update if you were having issues?

I probably won't bother basically :)

Could someone tell me what kernel version it's got 'under the hood', please. Some recent versions choke on my new server box.

Ta. :)

The key difference is, apparantly, it supports my motherboard's LAN :p

It's not a Marvell LAN chip by any chance? Was having fun the other day trying to get the LAN on my DS3 to play nice with 6.10...

Yep, tis a marvell yukon jobby. You should see the instructions for getting Asus' Linux drivers to work. Might as well buy a new mobo lol.

Well, it is a whole new version number and apparantly theres lots of new features, so the real question is.. why not?

Tell me about it, lol. Downloaded various drivers but the installation was a bit intimidating for a Linux noob :p

If there's native support in Feisty it may be time to have another go when I go home! I hear the wireless support has come on in leaps and bounds too. (It needed to - it was abysmal!)

I had problems with the onboard LAN on my new Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 with Edgy - lobbed in an old NIC card I had lying around - job done.

Hopefully Feisty will have support for newer boards but, for the moment, I have no need to change any of my rigs - they're all working just fine :p

Stan :)

Actually wifi support is there, just not by default. I found a great little how to and it takes about 2 minutes to set up.

From what someone told me in the Linux & Open Source forum apparantly the kernel in Edgy doesnt support the driver or something. Feisty has a newer kernel :)

Oi Beserker: Feisty Fawn kernel version: 2.6.20-15

Has anyone tried the SMP client in it? I don't want to upgrade and then find out that the SMP client has issues with it.

I will be installing it either tonight or tomorrow and will let you know. I see no reason why it wouldn't work though :)

I am upgrading my laptop right now. Unfortunately the download of the new files is pretty slow. Looks like too many people are caning the servers!

Downloaded the amd64 version earlier ready to go on my machine upstairs. I have to install that the hard way :(

I was afraid of that. :(

2.6.20 might fix Marvell Yukon2 support (yes, if you have a DS3, you need Yukon2, not the original Yukon), but it breaks my RAID controller (though I do have the option of patching the kernel to fix that).
