At stock, according to abit guru, the q6600 is idling about 39 degrees with Arctic cooling freezer 7 pro HSF. However when running Core Temp 0.95 the readings are approx 48 degrees. Which ones are correct. BIOS shows higher temps than uguru in windows does too.

Help!

they are both correct within their own frame of reference.
& it's normal for temps in BIOS to be higher than idel in Windows - whilst in the BIOS the CPU doesn't have access to things like system idle process etc. so it isn't idling.

uGuru reads the socket temperature (outside the CPU). Coretemp reads the actual core temperature, inside the CPU.

that makes much more sense, would you say, idle in windows, 46-49ish degrees is about right for the q6600?, worth re-seating, and applying some better thermal paste?

Sounds a fraction high, but don't reseat the CPU cooler as it takes 2-4 weeks with regular heat/cool cycles to set the thermal material, and that's when you'll see the best temperatures.

That's MX-1 on there, basically the same as AS-5, and it's a good thick pad to take account of any dishing in the IHS, so I would just leave it until it settles in.

ok thanks. i just ran pcmark05, max temp reached 63 degrees on one core. Ive been reading people getting under 40 Degrees under load with these CPU's. I know it may take a while to settle in, but surely that difference will be a degree or two. What is max temp for this CPU? it is around 62 degrees i heard?

Also the voltage is 1.3125, it cant go any lower due to motherboard restriction, yet i understand this CPU can run from 1.1V to 1.3275V?

EDIT: Maybe time to move this to the cooling board?

if you have EIST enabled it'll automatically drop the multi & the voltage (to 1.16V iirc) when full CPU power isn't needed.
