I am about to build a system which will use two PSU's and i was wondering if anyone has some good advice on PSU's, il describe what each one will be running;

System PSU;

Mobo
AMD AM2 4400+ 2.2ghz at 2.6ghz
7600GT and 7100GS

HardDisk PSU

14 HDD's
2 DVD-RW's
8 fans

The system will be upgraded to a quad intel or amd in january and the GFX to an 8800 so the PSU needs to be able to hand those,

My budget is £80 on each PSU. Im currently considering the corsair 520W PSU's.

Also does anyone have any tips for chaining the PSU's i.e. can you jsut run the green and back on both mobo connectors to the switch?

cheers

I did look at kilowatt supplies but im going for the twin PSU's more out of interest than need.

So any recomendations for PSU's in the 500-600W range?

I run two Tagan 480w together in one case, did a lot of reading up on it but without realy finding a conclusive answer as to wether it would hurt my Graphics card mainly, had the graphics and motherboard on seperate PSUs.

Went ahead and tried it anyway and everything worked out good.Been going about 3-4 months now.

Like you i just wanted to do it for doing it, try somat orignal if ya know what i mean, everytime i posted on a forum looking for help all i ever got was "why ? just buy a large PSU it's easier" more fun to tinker about then look in your case and see two PSUs working together that you fitted in there :)

I ended up useing the adapter that came with the CMStacker STC-T01, orignal one, but you can put together a relay switch that does the same job or even make an adapter like the one that comes with the stacker if you bought the parts from say map - lins. (why is that edited it's not even competion is it ?)

Good luck if you haven't done it yet and hope it went well if you have :)

How about a single decent PSU + high quality APC UPS? Got the best of both worlds. Dual PSU won't protect against spikes, surges, brown outs or total power failure. And it sounds like you have a lot of data, possibly a server. UPS is a must.
