Since I can get two 8800GTS 640mb cheaper than a single 8800GTX 768mb which would offer me the best performance at 1920x1200?

I have searched the net for benchmarks but can't find any

Thanks!

Surely you can only get 2x 320mb gts for less than the price of a GTX, and then only just.
But one GTX will be better overall ;)

I reckon 2 BFG OC 320Mb GTS cards in SLi would significantly outperform an 8800GTX at moderate resolution (say 1600x1200) in a game that had a decent SLi profile for about a £20-£40 saving (£180-£190 each card).

For me that is too many conditions and I would strongly recommend anyone considering this to go with the single card GTX option and then SLi in 12 months time when youi can pick up a second GTX for £150 on MM.

I second this....

Because you then have to run much slower FPS with games that are useless at supporting SLI....

To be honest i had an SLi system about a year ago with the 7900's and found there to be an improvement in pretty much every game that i played. Even ones that didn't have a profile, i just created one for it and it helped.

One thing a lot of people seem to over look is the size of the GTX. Having
recently rebuilt my system in a new case i've discovered that even though its a decent sized case, well laid out and easy to use i'm going to have to remove the drive cage if i want to use a GTX and i'm sure that many people will have problems with the size of it. I'd say give SLi a go, i wasn't disapointed with it and the PC-Stats tests show its the fastest setup at the moment. Most of the games coming out that you probably want to play will be using engines that are SLi compatible anyway so i don't think yu can loose!

And besides, by the time the GTX dropped to a low enough price for SLi you may as well sell your cards as the new generation of DX10 cards will be out, will be quicker, smaller and hopefully using less power.

Cheapest 320mb I know of is £170 ... times 2 gives you £340 the same as an OcUK GTX .... otherwise the cheapest GTX are £350.
The cheapest 640mb I know of is around £230 x2 = £460, much more than one GTX.
Then theres the extra heat that 2 cards will generate over one and Yes you can make profiles for non Sli games, but SLi doesnt always scale too well.
I'll stick to my guns, one GTX is a better bet.

Don't forget that 2x320, for example, still means you have only 320 memory available for games. The more shaders etc the more they need memory to run efficiently.

is there any bench mark on this ?

i would have thought 2 GTS 640mb would be faster then 1 GTX

i score 10350 with 1 GTS id expec to get 1600+ with 2 GTS

1 x 8800GTX may be longer but using SLI usually rulles out at least one PCI slot if not two.

2x GTS's in SLi are faster than a single GTX, but are pointless as said, only way they'll be faster is if the games support SLi, if they dont then your only running them on a single GTS, which is a lot slower, plus you will still only have 640mb, even the 320mb GTS's would be faster in SLi than a single GTX, but same points as above, only they would be a lot worse by only having 320mb, so are totally useless at higher resolutions then 16x12 in SLi or not, single GTX is the way to go imo. :)

Talen from this review :D

Very interesting to see was that where the previous 8800 products had stickers and logo's on the box with "Vista Ready", with this card it's not the case. Not one little sticker. In fact right now I'm holding the XFX box in my hands, and on the side what is it saying?: "Designed for Microsoft Windows XP". So yes, NVIDIA has a thing or two to deal with when it comes to Vista support.

i notice the 640mb version of the 8800gts is a bit of a let down performs worse than a 320mb the majority of the time even at high resolutions.
