Vista x86 vs x64

Simply put, is x64 still too immature to realistically install due to drivers and other considerations?

I'm on the verge of upgrading, but I'm split between the getting either the x86 or x64 release.

I generally use the windows box for games playing.

first thing u should do is to check to see if u can get all your 64 bit drivers... then check to see if u have no 16bit software...
 
Put it simply, no. x64 vista is as good, if not better than 32 bit. The driver support is moot as all Vista drivers have to be 64 bit compatible, its part of the WHQL process. The only driver issue I have is with performance of the Nvidia drivers, which still needs a little tweaking. I lose about 25% performance compared to XP 64.

Many others I know have found Vista 64 bit slightly more compatible with games than 32 bit flavour. I cant comment on this myself, as I only use 64 bit and have few if any compatibility problems.
 
Thanks guys, since I do own a 8800 (which to be fair isn't exactly rock solid on xp) I think perhaps it maybe best to go for the x64 flavour.

I'll definately double check my current hardware has decent driver support beforehand.

I'm also in this exact same position. I really want to go for it and install 64 bit, just trying to make sure I have all the 64bit drivers for my parts, but I cant think what i need :confused:. I've found 64bit drivers for my gfx card (7800gtx) and my mobo (nForce4 chipset), what else do i need, the only things plugged into my pc are:
-monitor
-keyboard & mouse
-linksys wireless adapter (usb) (I can live without it because I can easily use a wired connection)

I dont need other drivers for these do I, surely they have the basic generic drivers that install when you install windows?
