Have just received confirmation that my QX6800 and 8800 Ultra have just been shipped, yay! ( please save the spanking over the Ultra purchase for later ok :))

So big question, what OS should i load. Ive used both 32 and 64 variants of Vista and XP. Vista looks damn nice but ive have major problems with my 7900GTX will the 8800 be the same? Also previous experience with XP and nForce4 mobos has left me a little jaded, and Vista seems a touch more stable.

I could have a multi boot but then i dont want to waste gigs of HDD space installing multi OS's and Vista isnt a lightweight when it comes to its disk footprint.

So any thoughts?

W00t! As my mate Alex is fond of saying. Never quite understood what he meant but hell it sounds right for the occasion.

Well, hardware turned up and to my shock i seemed to have order 2 Striker Mobos. Need to have a word with Gibbo and the guys to arrange a return on that :) Needless to say i plunged straight in and installed everything. Shockingly it worked first time. Powered on and wham i get a POST screen. Insert the Vista 64 dvd and 40 mins later im looking at brand new puter and loading Stalker.

So what have i learnt?

1. Vista 64 bit doesnt want to install with my 7900 GTX. Glad i bought a 8800.
2. Quad Core rocks ass!
3. Always check what your buying and make sure your quantities are correct.
4. Check that your psu will fit your case. Had to use a pair of molegrips to modify my Stacker case. Also my tuniq cooler wont let me install my side mounted fan tray.
5. Asus bundle crap software. Their 3dMark06 wont allow you patch it. Had to find "alternative" media. Futuremark told me as long as i have a license theyre not tooo fussed about how it got installed.
6. Having access to an MSDN version of the OS beats worrying bout buying OEM versions of Vista. Even better the MSDN is actually legit! :) mwuhahah
7. Last but not least, i may have seriously overspent my budget, and sure the hardware geeks are gonna say that i didnt need to buy what i did, and that im compensating for a small penis with a large e-penis. But who cares. g-friends happy, i got a kick arse system and reading Valves statements about upping their soruce engine to a multi core hybrid threading model just makes me feel smug.
