Hey Guys,

First off, heres my OC.

E6300 @ 3.3Ghz (470FSB)
P5B, 1101 Bios
GeIL 2GB 6400 Ultra C4 Kit running @ 940mhz 5-5-5-18

The Above is Perfectly stable

Right just got another GeIL 2GB 6400 Ultra C4 Kit off my mate to add to my current GeIL 2GB 6400 Ultra C4 Kit.

I put it in this morning, I get one beep but no display and the graphics card fan is stuck on 100%

So I rebooted, says that Overclocking has failed e.t.c.

So I took out my current sticks, which are perfectly running @ 940mhz and replace with the new sticks.

Boots perfect, goes into windows with everything like it was OC wise.

So why does the PC not boot with all slots filled? Both sticks can do the Overclock

Cheers

This morning I also tried lowering the FSB so that the ram ran @ 800mhz @ 5-5-5-18. It Posted, but was unstable. Kept rebooting windows.

Surely the above is achievable with 4Gb?

Just got some of the geil stuff from the current deal. only boots into windows at 1.9v, try anything else and it's unstable, my cheapo cas5 geil stuff is much better lol. Tink this could be a bad batch, maybe why it's so cheap :(

I got 4GB of the same yesterday and I've had to RMA one of the kits cos it was bad. So I've only got 2GB in at the mo and it BSOD on me about 3 times today but forgot to raise the DDR Voltage to 2.1V for the 4-4-4-12 timings and its been fine for the last couple of hours.
Mihgt leave it on overnight to make sure it is. And hopefully the new set I get back will be ok.

Geil sets are ridiculously cheap for a reason

Both 2Gb sets do 940mhz @ 2.1v 5-5-5-15 on their own???? Paired up I can't get the same overclock using all four bays.

I think that £58.74 for 2Gb of DDR ram which will do 940mhz is pretty good ;)

there are going to be those that work but i've lost all faith in Geil and there are plenty of threads on here for me to be able to justifiably **** them off, so I will do. That's my opinion anyway, why else would the RAM be such a giveaway? And to think they can still sell it that cheap and make decent profit on it. Makes you wonder what it was produced for

All RAM is down in price ATM, not just Geil. The reason the Geil in particular is so cheap is probably that as it's OcUK's highest-selling RAM, they've been able to negotiate a high-volume deal to shift a lot of it for a low price. Doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.

With the huge quantity of the stuff OcUK must have been selling lately, it's no surprise that there're many reports of dodgy Geil. Gibbo has said that Geil has a lower RMA rate than Corsair, about 0.2%.

Geil might have a lower RMA rate but if they shift 2000 sticks for example say 20 are faulty thats an RMA of 1%

If they shift only 800 sticks of something else and only 5 are faulty then only 0.6% get RMA'd. So the ratio of RMA to sales should be more for Geil's case.

Not sure I follow the point you're trying to make there?

Well I'm trying to say that if another manufacturer shifts less items then less are faulty therefore the RMA rate will be lower. Geil shift loads and loads of items apparently and so it takes a large number of faulty ones for the RMA rate to be high if you get what I mean. Because the divisible number would be much higher (2000) so for an RMA rate of 1% 20 have to be faulty, for 2% 40 have to be faulty. Whereas with other manufacturers if less are sold (800) then if 8 are faulty that's 1%. Even though the percentage is low, there are a much higher number of faulty sticks around and this RAM is so popular because of it's price. That's the only reason I bought it and a lot of the stuff turns duff from what I've seen on the forum.

I am pleased to say mine has been running smoothly for over 3 weeks but that's at my own fiddled settings. It will DEFINITELY NOT run at what it's stated at

I seem to remember Gibbo saying they sell more of these kits than any other one, no surprise more thread come up saying they don't work if they sold more of them ;)

Indeed, if this is the most sold ram, then there are going to be more people in toal having trouble with it, provided it has the same failure rate as any other ram...

Geil works fine here, alongside 2 sticks of 1 gb 2 brands of ram, so basicly im stable with 4gb of ram from 3 brands...

But you're no more likely to get a faulty stick with the Geil that with any other brand of RAM, assuming the % is the same. It doesn't matter whether 8 are faulty out of 800, or 80 out of 8000. There are more dodgy Geil sticks, spread across more buyers. The chance of you getting a dodgy one is the same, however many they sell. That's what the percentage means!

I still feel that for a fixed amount of sticks sold for any manufacturer, Geil would top that list in faulty sticks (that's my personal opinion anyway)
