So I installed an E6600 on a DS3P with 2Gb GEIL RAM on Friday, and have been fiddling with settings since. I'm a complete noob when it comes to overclocking (last time was way back with my old P4) so I'd just like to know if what I've done is correct.

I have my E6600 @ 3.2GHz (8 * 400), RAM with 2.1V 4-4-4-12 is 1:1 with the FSB (so at 800MHz) and I haven't upped the voltage through the chip yet. This is stable, so I guess this means I have a good chip given that I didn't haven to up the voltage?

RAM is currently at 2T - will I see a gain switching to 1T? I did some googling but people seemed to have contrasting opinions. I'm on the stock cooler (soon to be replaced) and it sits around 63-64 on load which is pretty hot, so I'm not going to be pushing it further until I change the cooler.

I think I've done everything correctly, does it look like I've missed anything? Cheers.

You may struggle with such tight timings at 1T. Leave at 2T imo! A Noctua, Scythe Ninja or Tuniq will bring your load temps down to around 53 per core (49 CPU).

2T it is then. :)

Was considering a Noctua, Tuniq Tower or a Zalman aero flower. Can't decide between them.

Do the clocks etc look OK though? Thanks.
I'll decide then - Noctua! :) Clocks look fine as long as you're Orthos stable (12 hours), but I would reduce or disable the OC until you get a better cooler. FYI, with the Noctua you will have to take the MB out to fit the retainer.

HHm thats strange , i had a go at clocking my 6600 following the OP settings and i got 3.6ghz instead of 3.2 ? 8* 400 system memory multiplyer to 2x

did i do summat wrong ? sry im a n00b at overclocking lol

my ram is ocz 667 mhz pc5400.
i`m currently @ 773 with 4 4 4 8 1t @ 2.1volts

i`d try 1t mate, if it doesn`t work you can always go back to 2t

Remove the mobo? Aaargh effort! Do you have to do this with the scythe or the tuniq?

Cheers.

I might give 1T a go, I'll see how brave I feel after I change the cooler! ;)

yup cpuz seems to be reporting it correctly, i was happy booting straight in to windows at 3.2ghz on stock volts, even the temps seemed ok , 40idle , but i stressed it for 10 minutes using TAT and it hit 70 under stress test load altho dvd converting and running 3dmark06 never took load over 55 :(

ive gone back to stock now but i'll order a noctua some time this week
