BFG 8800GTS OC2 heat troubles

After numerous crashes to desktop and BSOD, I noticed the temp of my card was idling at about 76-80c so god knows what it was when I was gaming, anyway I contacted BFG support who advised the card should idle at between 40-65c, I have to manually set the fan to 100% to get the temp to anything under 80c. I think there must be a problem with the contact to the core and/or memory? Hopefully either BFG or overclockers will RMA it for me?

Just a heads up as I noticed a few other people with heat problems with their 8800's.

Hey mate,

Im having the same problem. Ive had my card for 2 weeks now and just this minute did a screen dump...

The PC has been running for a few hours now and not even played a game, just on the desktop. Ive put all the clocks back to the BF OC2 clocks.

The card does not feel hot when in windows, but when gaming the card feels very hot.

Im not 100% sure if Ntune is reporting it right, however I installed ATi tools and it was around 77c then. Ive never seen it above 82c even when gaming tho.

Not sure what to do too mate.

BFG have been in touch and are sorting out an RMA for my card as we speak.

Its not an easy one to call due to the flakey Nvidia drivers, some of my crashes were down to heat and the rest the drivers. But anything over 70c at idle is too hot for sure.

Exactly,

Did you call or e-mail BFG Andy?

I think I may get in touch myself and just have a word with them. The card is perfectly stable and had no problems with it. Even oc'd it to 630/1010 without a problem.

I emailed them

My GTX OC2 idling at 51 right now ... but it is cool in the room, normally its around 56-57, peaking during gaming at 73, although I have set a profile for the fan speed in rivatuner.
75% above 55 deg, 85% above 64 deg and 100% above 69 deg.
Depending on room temp and case airflow, standard idle should be around 55-63 for a gtx I would say, so presumably the GTS would be a little less.

Ok,

Just got a e-mail from BFG Tech support. I exlpained I was getting 77-80c idle e.t.c. The e-mail....

The reply...

"That is the standard operating temperature for the card. Try putting a fan
near the card to try and draw more heat from the card. It will not hurt the
card to run at these temperatures."

i have a GTS mines is idling at 63oC and that's with it over clocked too 600/1000.

Yes thats because gfx card will be using the 2D clocks when sat on desktop - so temps should be around 60c mark regardless. ;)

Yow, mine seems to idle at closer to 65-70...

From what I've gathered, some of the 8-series cards have badly seated HSF's, so reseating it and adding new thermal pads could drop temps a bit....

Im starting to think the same thing.

However, I forgot who it was now but someone took off the heatsink and applied some AS5. They reported that there was hardly any drop in temps and was not to sure if all the RAM chips were touching.

Not sure what to do. I personally think this is way to high compaired with everyone elses. However Ive had no problems, even clocks to 630/1000.
