I think selling a leg could justify buying this.

Got to love the name though, V8 :D

Benchmarks look impressive, but it makes my x2 feel sooo old now... AMD needs to get a grip now and release some new products.

Its basically like AMD's 4 x 4 with two Quad Penryns on the same board.

800W power usage. Pointless for home user unless into CAD, rendering or server for a large LAN.

Agree on the power thing but surely PSU manufacturers will eventually have to catch up and start efficiently producing high power PSUs at a reasonable cost for the home user!!

Not pointless though since when core optimisation is built into codes for applications the processing power utilised could almost improve linearly with number of cores.

you'd have to be totally stupid to buy that, barely anything uses TWO cores never mind bloody EIGHT, AMD are doing fine, there new quad cores and dual cores out shortly, you absolutely do not need to compete with a product that has no purpose, way to go intel?

This is perfect for a server environment.

Actually many applications use dual core. Windows for one, and even if the application doesn't support dual core at least you can use the system whilst the process is loading one core at 100%, as the other core is free for Windows.

You've got dual core so you spot it differences under load.

Believe it or not, this isn't for the mass home market ;)

The server environment will use server boards that already exist. Though unlike the last V8, which ran DDR2 RAM this seems to have FB-DIMMs for some reason?!? No need for dual 16x PCI-E in a server environment. Doesn't sound like this a V8 to me, rather just a server board.

The V8 is meant to be aimed at exactly the same market as AMDs 4x4. HPC, workstations and the odd super enthusiast.

Just hope that every organisation that has a server room full of these also have a nuclear power plant next door :p Impressive cpu's though :)

TBH this could actually save on power as the need for extra tin would be reduced and the abilty to run multiple virtual servers a reality.
