Is 2 x 2gb better than 4 x 1gb?

I've currently got 4 x 1gb of giel DDR2 6400 ULL memory in the pc in me sig. Unfortunately, this ram just refuses to overclock by any amount. I've tried slacker timings, more/less volts, etc but its still a no-no.
Would changing to 2 x 2gb allow me to overclock the memory even a little amount?
Thanks.

Yes.

but i think the new P35 solves a mssive amount of probs with 4X1 , so i think its better 4X1 as long as you can get them cheapερ than 2Χ2

It depends on the strength of the chipset, the P35 is very strong and can run 4x1gb sticks to insane levels of overclock, i can do 1200+ with 4 sticks of crucial pc5300

Many chipsets are weak for large banks of memory overclocking, the 680i isn't great for 4 sticks or high density for example.

There is only one kit of 2x2gb ram that overclocks, mushkin pc8500, near impossible to find though and costs a fortune.

Okies, so it looks like a mobo replacement then. I've had no probs with a gigabyte DS3 since I've had it so I'll look into getting one of the P35 versions.
Cheers for the info.

Iv just got the Mushkin 2x 2GB XP2-6400 kit. Once i get my new rig built i will post the results, but reviews look excellent.

Ive just replaced my 2x1 gig of gskill to 4x1 Crucial Ballistix

Running at the same speed (800) and timings (4 4 4 12) as the gskill , the crucial is running great and is scoring slightly better in memory benchmarking.

The 975x isnt doing too bad for its age.

I used 4x1GB Corsair DDR2-6400 Dominator (black with blue label) CAS4 and run so fast also still at 800mhz instead of 667mhz (I used Gigabyte GA-M59SLI-S5 with BIOS F7) - Im much happy with it, I add up with Corsair Dominator Airflow fans as well - seem it good one, sorry I cant tell you where it from as it not from OCUK. :)
