Another game pulled from shelves (not manhunt)

Ms Fergus wrote to the manufacturer demanding the image should be removed from the game, which was first published in 2003.

I can't say it would make much difference now as the game has been out for almost five years, and has no doubt seen the baulk of it's sales.

Even so, I agree with this being pulled.

Without a shadow of a doubt, every child that has died in this country (and beyond) in the last 4 years, would be alive if it were not for this game. Monstrous

Even car crashes and natural death?

What an odd statement to make.

I'm all for over the top violence and gutting people like fish

BUT

If they had used it in the game, it would be disgusting and I would be ashamed to call myself a gamer. Games are about escaping from reality etc, bringing a real tradgedy like this into a game is just not on. (lacking vocabulary to describe how I feel about this)

I don't think it was so much that the game was violent, just that perhaps using the image of someone being led away to be brutally tortured and killed for entertainment purposes wasn't the brightest moves.

Jokester

From the sounds of it, they just used it as background stock art without realising what it was a photo of. Bit of a silly mistake, but not the end of the world. Can't they just release a ~20kb patch that changes that texture?

This is a good call.

No development company seeking a profit should include this sort of real-world material in a game.

Seems like very bad taste to me. When I'm playing a game, even if it's some dark, twisted RPG set in hell - I know I would not want to see real-world footage like this, it would put me right off.

Can't see how this image got into the game in the first place. Of all the pictures to put in the background, they pick one which will cause issues for them

This is outrageous and disgusting. What were the developers thinking of? So ok, they apologies but what was going through their minds in the first place. Surely they must have known that this would cause some upset and anger particular with the parents of James Bulger. This wasn’t just one person developing this game.. it’s gone through teams of people before it hit the shelves. Publishers, testers etc.. did not one person think “Hey, hang on a minute”? I’m baffled.

Games enthusiast for years have been defending that video games aren’t directly responsible for mindless acts of crime and extreme violence yet this only fuels the debate in favour of those who claim they do.

The reason I play video games is that the experience takes me to a fictional place away from reality knowing that no one will be hurt. Legacy have obviously felt they needed to push a few boundaries when in fact they’ve crossed the line.
