My 18w Laing DDC ULTRA waterPump failed to start a few days ago....
I only noticed as windows locked up as it loaded the desktop....

Now i have my waterpump RPM wire connected to my fan controller which beeps if the waterpump don't start or run..
I can't find any auto shutoff in my motherboard bios settings for if the cpu temps reach to high a set temp :(

What you guys doing for keeping an eye on if your waterpump don't start or stops ????????

I know there's an issue with the blue impeller and the older Petra tops as they clash, leading to the pump overheating, and occasionally failing to start.

I modded the inside of my Petra top to make sure it didn't make contact and the pump runs a lot cooler now.

I took the impeller out and cleaned everything and the pump has been starting ok again for last few days...But it's very worrying as i have my 8800gtx in the same loop...

Is this a common problem with this pump?

I have 2 of them waiting for me to install them into my new PC, should I mod them first?

It's apparently a common problem on the blue impeller version as it stands ever so slightly further out than the older version (can't remember what colour they were). Petra has a new top specifically designed for them called the DDCT-01s (as opposed to the original DDCT-01).

It wasn't until after I had bought mine that I found out and during testing I had problems with pump stalls and overheating (to the point the base was burning to the touch). Since removing the internal lip that's over the intake, the pump runs fine, is barely warm to the touch and flow rate is incredible.

Thanks Jokester

I most likely strip my pump again over the weekend and have a look to see if there any lip i can remove on the Alphacool top...

I just feel so glad that my 8800gtx didn't break....I hate to think of what temp it when up to...

I have just opened my 2nd pump and taken it apart, I cant see where it could catch/rub. I guess ill need to run them and see what they are like.
