Now i have 3 months off uni, i thought id make a new case. Why not?

I already have a very nice case (Lian Li PC-767) but i hate all the fans!

One day i thought 'what happens if i replace all those little fans with one **** off big one?!'

And this is what happened:

Yep, it is probably the ugliest thing you may have seen, but it shifts a lot of air!!

It also cost no more than £16.

It needs a few more tweaks to get it ready, but should be up and running tomorrow/today/Sunday.

To be honest ill bet there are lots of flaws to this design... to tired to think anymore.

What do you all reckon?

ill post up soon with it built up, with temps etc.

Charlie

Edit: The PSU and cd-rom are only to sizing up before you shout at me for using a cheapo PSU!

you could have screwed th shelves through from the sides to get rid of the ugly 2x1 pieces

Oh yes! I cant really think of a way to make it look nice!

The 2x1 are there to act as runners. The mobo tray and the HDD tray(top part) are removable to make is nice and easy to assemble. I agree is looks a bit over the top, but its really nice to just slide the whole lot out.

Those fans are noisy

This one is pretty much silent on the slowest speed, and moves about as much air as 20 120mm fans(bit of a guess). The sound is it makes is lower frequency and i find it more ambiant than the little fans.

that is so scary, i had a dream about that the other day!
apart from the fan was on the side wall, whats the temps like?

Ill find out the temps once its all ready. Im quite looking forward to it!

Watch this space as ill keep it updated on this beautiful wet sunday!!

Thats great. I cant count the amount of times i wanted to take the side window off my case and put a table fan there. One cheap cooling solution thats for sure!

Personally, I would remove the fan guard and build a mounting system for the motor instead of just wedging the guard in the case. I would also enclose the fan in a side wall.

I did something similar when I built my mini server. To make it quiet I used just 1x120mm. This one fan also cools the PSU and CPU, so the the whole server is very very quite as it really is just one 120mm fan running at 5v. Temps are really low too.

I'll post pics in a bit.

Temps are low 30s idle. Will test it on load in a bit.

Need to experiment channeling air about. The empty pci slots are getting just a much air as the cpu.

NB the duct tape is only temporary! (TBH the whole case is!)

lol mad...

how much do the temps differ?

Its about 40-45 degrees on load atm, i reckon with some clever air directing i can get it lower.

My old case was about 5 degrees hotter both idle and load.

:D Certainly unique. Seems very functional too.

Made me wonder what I could do with a 38" industrial fan, old parts of a case and some wood...

Perhaps when I have some free space to play with.

jesus the heatsink on that graphics card doesnt look happy. you sure thats ok on the slant like that? lol

good going anyway. nothing wrong witha bit of ghetto

very.... interesting... if that's the correct word... You gonna put some dust guards or something on the front and back?

Later on I also added a second 250gb hard drive, more RAM plus added a LCD to show temps, upload and download speeds.

Plus of course gave it a coat of the black stuff.
