Friday afternoon I went to work leaving my wallet at home, that night work turned out to be pretty stressful, how do I solve that? I sneak out and grab a taxi home to pick up my wallet to purchase me a 6 pack of beer to chill out with after the shift (beer the solver of all problems), anyhow, that night I got in from work to find my wallet missing from my pocket, no problem I thought, I often forget it at work and leave it in a special place, so next day I arrive at work to find my wallet where I thought it would be, sweet ?, nope, my debit card is missing from the first slot, eh  , So I think for a second, where on earth could that card be, someone couldn’t have stolen it as they would have taken the whole wallet surely, so then I came to the conclusion that when I brought the 6 pact of beer instead of putting the card back in my wallet I must have just popped it in my pocket, so I grab a cab back home and check the clothes I was wearing the previous day, nope, not there  , so I end up ringing the card company and report the card as lost,

So alls well I thought, until all through the night I kepted getting flash backs of myself putting the card back in my wallet, the more I thought about it the more I became certain of it, so I end up having a scout around my work area, I then start getting in a bad mood with everyone, then just before I was about to fly off the handle a guy I work with says "here it is, just under this cupboard" (that is raised from the ground), I thought to myself, ummmmmmmm, that was a bit convenient, but then thought well maybe it was possible somehow and was just glad to have my card back,

So, moving on I get home and after chilling out with a few beers I decide to check my account to see if my rent checks came out, OMG WHY IS MY ACCOOUNT DOWN LIKE £400!!!!!!11111111111OnEE! 1!1111, which it was, after looking at my account in detail someone had taken out in separate amounts that add up to around £400 from the ATM machine across from where I work, WHAT???? , this is where we get to the part I know I will end up getting allot of flack for, I'm a very trusting person (you can see where this is heading), some people say too trusting, anyhow I remembered that I once gave the pin number of that card to the guy that I work with who found the card under the cupboard, it was once months ago when I couldn’t leave work as it was too busy so I gave him the card and the pin number to pick me up some stuff from the store across the road,

This is probably the most colourful guy in our work place, his only 23 and quite the comedian and everybody likes him and I honestly would have trusted him with anything, it's blatantly him as I never gave my pin number to no one else and don’t have it written down anywhere,

So what should I do? I'm sitting here at nearly quarter to eight in the morning almost half temped to ring the police, or perhaps I should speak to my boss first?

I'm sure I read a case a couple years back of an OAP who gave her PIN to her carer to withdraw money for her.

You can guess what happened.

Last I heard the case had ground to a halt, because the OAP had given out the PIN to someone else, therefore the police considered the problem her fault, and were reluctant to help.

Also, unless you can actually prove it was him (camera, or by knowing his movements at the time) you're unlikely to get anywhere with this.

Sorry dude. :(

You handed out your PIN  You better hope he was caught on camera.

Exactley.

I would be asking your security people if they have video cameras that may pick up anything near the cash machine.

damm, I know it was him for a fact though, do all atm's have cameras on them ?

I think they do but how long it takes to investigate it is anyones guess. I will ask Mrs L when she gets up as she works for a bank as to what you can do to sort it

If you've reported the card as stolen / lost and £400 has been taken then surely the bank should refund the £400 as a fraudulent withdrawal?

They maybe able to get around it if he has knowingly given out his PIN Number.

I think you should scare the guy. Say you've been shown pictures from the ATM accross the road to see if you recoginise the person and that it's clearly him but that you haven't decided if you're going to say anything yet.

You'll get your money back from your bank anyway but the guy deserves to have the **** scared out of him.

edit:

the guy obviously felt some guilt because he gave you the card back. If I'd been in his position I would have left the card and £400 at your desk anonymously.

You gave your pin number out, your not a vulnerable old lady who was sweet talked into telling someone it so the police won't care.

Only way is to talk to the guy concerned and at the very least never give out your pin number.

So, moving on I get home and after chilling out with a few bears I decide to check my account to see if my rent checks came out

There is your problem. Didn't your mum tell you not to hang out with bears? bunch of thieving gyppos.

I think at the end of the day, it was your money and the guy took it w/o your permission, so it's theft.
Sorry to hear about that, and I hope you get the money returned. :(

1 - you are an idiot
2 - you are an idiot
3 - get onto the police and tell your manager about it ASAP.

How did you pay for your taxi home and back again?

I allways keep a few quid in a clean ashtray on my sidetable at home, don't forget you pay for cabs at the end of the journey, not at the start.

not always, a lot of taxis are asking for money upfront, but that depends on the circumstances.

have you told your manager or told the police?
