I tried to play battlefield 2 today on my new 2900XT, but was completely unable. The ground appears to be shooting up in triangles all around me so I cant see what I am doing, trees stretch across the horizon, occasionally the PC dies completely :( Any thoughts anyone? :'(

I cant run ati tool :( It just hangs...
I ran quake 4 and got a black screen. When it was past the intros it reached the menu and every 5 secs or so a triangular version of the menu would flash on the screen a bit :/

Lost planet demo dx9 runs fine >< what the hell?!

does sound like a card issue however since it doesnt affect lost planet possibly a driver issue, use drivercleaner and reinstall.

does it ever do it when its just in windows? is any of your system overclocked? what wattage is your power supply? id try both using drivercleaner and re installing the drivers, and if anything at all is overclocked put it back to stock if it doesnt work then its probably the power supply or the card

Someone on another forum said that they had an issue with my asrock vsta and the 2900XT which they resolved: "I turned off vid sinq and it ran supper no problems at all. So the 2900 WILL work on that board."
Anyone know how this is done?

Clever bloke, I wish I could get my graphics card to do my tea.

Try rinsing your drivers out and re-installing.

If that doesn't work it sounds like a hardware fault :(

Triangles points to memory, I used to get in Need for Speed Most Wanted if I pushed the 6800Ultra memory to hard, it was like triangle of tarmac was ripped up and standing upright, from this side it looked same as the road, from other side it was weird like virtual lol.

If it was core it would be speckles on screen normally.

Possibly this -
Clearing Shader Optimizations: When you change the graphical settings or install a new patch, BF2 attempts to optimize the shaders used in the game for the best performance on your particular hardware. These optimized files are stored in your \Documents and Settings\[username]\My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache\ directory. If you've changed your settings several times, I recommend you finalize your changes, close BF2, go to the above directory and delete everything under the \cache\ directory. The next time you start the game and play single or multiplayer, your shaders will be optimized again. Close BF2 one more time, defragment your hard drive, and now things should be much smoother and load much faster the next time you go to play BF2.

is that asrock vsta not only got a x4 pci-e slot or something?

Hmmm, I just checked my clock speeds in BIOS. My CPU was at 275 and PCIE underneath said 175 or something like that, I changed it to auto and now my CPU is at 266 and it says PCIE at 100. I dont know what's going on here really, but are those reasonable sounding? Could these be causing any problems?
Is it the PSU? I just dont know enough about all this :(

The PCIe value should definitely be at or around 100, not 175  how are things performing since you changed it? I hope you didn't do any lasting damage to the card...

The PCIE frequency that high would cause serious stability problems. It needs to be around 100MHz, give or take a few MHz.
