looking to protect a Vista laptop for free ?

Anti Virus

NOD32 or AVG Anti virus

Spyware is largely unneeded with IE7 in vista. Leave UAC (user account control) on and browsing in IE7 protected mode is nigh on safe. I've been running vista bout 4 months now, installed "Spybot Seach and Destroy" and "lavasoft Ad-Aware" out of instinct. Ran them the other day

Nothing

on both of them.

nodoubt somebody will come along and say i had xx spyware after 2 days, but they've blatently been looking at dodgy porn / torrent sites :D

Kaspersky released new version 7 for the UK today - you choose either Anti-Virus or Internet Security - it look very good and worth to buy one, I got 30% discount last night before I got free upgraded to version 7 today - highly recommend!!

- AOL free anti-virus (rebranded kaspersky anti-virus which is top notch)
- Vista firewall with outbound protection on
- Firefox + adblock plus (to block adverts on web pages which install tracking cookies)
- SPywareblaster
- Spybot S&D

Unfortunately, the AOL Active Virus Shield is no longer available.
I'd say either pay for Kaspersky or NOD32 or get Avast for free.

OMG, I WILL NEVER CHOOSE TO HELP SOMEONE WITH A VISTA LAPTOP/COMPUTER AGAIN, how on earth to people endure the os, I honest to god feel ill after using it, anyway thanks for the reccomended apps, I've just put avast on there, hope thats enougth, tried installing other apps but OMG, it's like fighting an invisable currunt working with vista, everythning you do is scrutinized to the extent that you actually feel physically drained trying to do anything on it, laptop is off now and going back to original owner, after that experiance I will only support XP systems.
