Hey i have a HP DV9000 notebook with vista on and i cant stand it, it lags my notebook and it doesnt give me anything i require.

The only problem is the laptop was bought in the catalougue (bad spelling) and it never came with a vista disc it just has the vista stickers on the machine.

I have my XP disc but its not a case of putting it in and downgrading....:| sadly.

So how can one do this? Please help

thanks
My notebook info is;
Product number: CNF70421FQ
1x1_clear.gif
Serial number: RW754EA

Surely its just a case of setting the laptop to boot from CD, putting the XP CD in the drive and booting it up.

Then format, install XP then your drivers which will be available online and it may be worth writing them to a CD before you format.

I have tried with no luck, the XP disc just didnt boo, then when i was on my desktop it would, but i couldnt do anything because i have a more up to date version of windows

also, how would one save the drivers?

thank you man

just set the laptop to boot from cd in the bios. even laptops must have a bios where you can change boot priority surely? :)

and then it's just a standard xp install - just make sure you format the hard drive when prompted.

yeah once you have booted from the disc, you have to tell it to delete the windows partition (probably c), and then create a partition, then format it (do a full format - not quick).

then you should be able to install xp

You will also need a serial key for XP, not an OEM one from another PC as that is not licensed to your new laptop. If your copy of XP is retail then that would be fine.

Don't delete the hidden partition on there either else you'll lose the ability to restore Vista if you ever wish to.

The OP hasn't actually mentioned which version of Vista came on his laptop.
If he is running Vista Business or Vista Ultimate OEM then he can use "Downgrade Rights" and run WinXP Professional under the same license.
Anything else and he will need to buy a copy of WinXP for the laptop.

Downgrade rights on OS's can be found here:

http://download.microsoft.com/downl...9d-4996-b198-7b9d3fe15611/downgrade_chart.doc

If he cannot use Downgrade Rights then he can only use the WinXP version he already owns if it's Retail and not in use on any other machine currently.

Sorry i have Home Premium and i also have my old (now not used) Windows XP home disc - which is original and lying in next doors cd collection lol

i have a HP DV9000 also and its set to boot from CD first as default,
so someone must have changed yours not too?
anyway the option to change the boot sequence is on the first screen that comes up after hitting the power button.
as for the drivers you will have to go to the HP website and download the XP drivers for the laptop

In next doors CD collection?
The OEM version of XP Home you had was good for the machine it was initially installed on.
Not for any other machine and especially not for your next door neighbour!

To remain license legal you are going to need to buy a new WinXP license for your laptop.
A new OEM XP Home license shouldn't cost you too much at all and you should be able to boot off that and get it running without too much hassle.

I have tried the XP disc - it wont boot on start up, and the first boot is for the DVD-Drive.

When im at my desktop, then i can reach set-up but cant do nothing from there via vista.

Help appreciated

thanks

I must say that I'm quite surprised, whenever I've voiced any dislike over Vista I've been lambasted.

I find Vista, the licence situation and the zealotry of its followers totally abhorrent. I do have to admit that it is damned pretty but at what cost? Well over £100 certainly.... (if you include the extra cost of the hardware to handle the bloated operating system)

if it wasnt for slower os releases we wouldnt need to upgrade our hardware and then hardware makers wouldnt have a reason to further develop there gear and maybe have to close up shop ;)

software and hardware makers work in harmony ....they know how to stay rich ;)

Because most of us have now realised that it's like talking to a brick wall with its fingers in its ears (if a brick wall had fingers or ears).
Getting fed-up of reading the same old "Vista this, Vista that" when there are literally tens of thousands of people more than happy with the OS.
So it is just a lot easier when people come along and have another moan about Vista and they make a suggestion about going back to XP, to help them do it than explain yet again why they are wrong about Vista.

Is it a new DV2000? I.E the one with a shiny black surface? If so it should have no problems running vista I have a DV2310US which is the same just a slower processor and only 1024 ram and it runs vista premium perfectly :)
