you've installed two standard clients on the E6600, (that why you have two cpu folders. and one smp client on the E6800 (one cpu folder).

haven't used samba, and can't help you with Ubuntu (had major issues myself) but do know you only have the one CPU1 folder with smp.

Places>home folder>foldingathome>CPU1
their should be a FahCore_a1.exe (smp core)
if not somethings wrong.

Edit: my best guess is the smp flag wasn't used when runing finstall
./finstall smp

Thanks shadowscotland !! I think your right, I may have left the smp off the ~finstsll smp string. Im going to re-install the E6600 box. All along I was thinking the E6600 was installed properly !!

Re: Samba:
This was the easy part. Here's some pretty simple instructions for it, but not being able to see my Linux boxes from a WinDoze box (FahMon, EM-III, etc etc) was the main reason for shifting them to WinDoze in the first place.

Here's what I have from yesterday (Still More to Convert):
E6800 - Running WinDoze as the Main O/S, VMware 5.5 installed, and Ubuntu v7.04 running under that.
E6600 - Native Ubuntu 7.04 Installed
E6600 - WinDoze-XP SP2. (Soon to be Ubuntu 7.04)
Network: Typical Home Wireless / GB Cable
Workgroup: WORKGROUP

I can see all of my systems using Network Neighborhood, EM-III, Fahmon, from any box to any box using this set up on the linux machines.

All you do is [In Ubuntu v7.04]
--> Open A Terminal Window
--> sudo apt-get install samba
--> sudo smbpasswd [username] #[username] is the account foldingathome folder / CPU1 folder is located. You should NOT install FAH as ROOT or sudo as it can lead to trouble.
--> Enter New Password
--> Re-Enter New Password

Then From Gnome Desktop
--> Menu Bar > System > Administration > Share Folders
--> A Passowrd dialog box pops up, enter your sudo or Root password.
--> Then the Shared Folders dialog box pops up.
--> Click on the +Add button
--> Path = your [username], Share Through = [WIndowws networks (smb)], Name = I used my user name [ke1ha], Comment = I used [Share for FahMon]
--> Click [ok]
-->Then, back on the Shared Folders Dialog Box, click on the General Properties TAB.
--> Enter Domain / Workgroup = [WORKGROUP], this is my windows workgroup as opposed to MsHome. Nothing in the WINS server box.
--> Click Close.

NOTE(1) - I did a complete system re-boot after, just to be sure it had the right Network ID / share settings, probably not necessary but wanted to be sure.

NOTE(2) - For those that are command line only, No X11 or (GUI / Desktop) installed, you'd have to edit the smb.conf file manually, which I'm sure we can post the relavant portions here to make that easy. But if your savy enough to do command line configuraiton, you probably dont need this little How-Too.

On Your WinDoze Box:
--> Go to Network Places, and select View workgroup computers.
--> You should see all the Linux Shared boxes listed.
--> Select / Navigate to [Linux Box A, B, C, etc] and you should see your home directory that you shared, in my case /UB-E6800/home/ke1ha

Then just browse to CPU1, CPU2 etc etc copy the URL and use that for FahMon or EMII settings.

Easy-Peasy !!

Once you've done it once, takes about a minute per machine. There may be an easier way, but that was simple and quick for me to see all my Linux boxes.

Finstall will do all the clients, providing you tell it which one you want.

For SMP, just like Shadow said, you need to type

Code:
./finstall smp

And it will go away and do its own thing.

The SMP client runs 4 instances of the fahcore - as it was designed for quad-core processors. However, the SMP client runs just fine on two cores.

I Just nuked the folder, and reinstalled using ./finstall smp ... it worked, here's the results:

1x CPU1 folder, not two.
Top Shows 4 instances of the Core Running

Seems to be doing it's thing. Oh, and by the way, it downloaded a 1500+ point WU as opposed to two 207 point WU's !!!! :D

You will like SMP WUs :D

The ones I know of are: 1385, 1580 and the best - 1760. There are some others too, but they are either WinSMP or Quad-only WUs.

Yep, Here's what I got as of today:

E6800 WMWare - Ubuntu 64-bit: WU 2610, 1523pts
E6600-1 Ubuntu Native 64-bit: WU 2610, 1523pts
E6600-2 Ubuntu Native 64-bit: WU 2653, 1760pts

[EDIT]

Total (Accroding to FahMon) PPD = 5323 + PS3 900ppd = 6323ppd :eek:

[EDIT]

Still More Machines to convert.

nice work KE1HA.

their is a way to get fahmon in windows to read the ubuntu smp client, from memory is simular to what you've explained (didn't work for me but I've given up on learning ubuntu untill I've a new job and more time at home - 3h comute at present :( )

Edit: just updated windows and Ubuntu and that's normally a surefire way of killing my smp production - :o

so far all is well....

I have slightly less [no] money than previously thought, so it could be months before I can even consider a quad :(
I dont have the spare dosh for high end Quads either, but in the states, the middle of the road versions are reasonable.

The Q6600 2.4 quad is about 149.gbp here on Ocuk. I dont know the comparitive outputs from what I've got, but was thinking on giving it a try instead of one E6600.

I was smart when I bought my MB's I made sure they were single Quard ready.
