Heckling for change
I have been saying this for years but I wanted to check that things hadn't changed with the newer cards, as some people say they run hot and need the extra cooling. But...ram doesn't need ramsinks or waterblocks!

From a Ti4400, to a 9800Pro, X1800, 6800GT, 7800GT, and now an 8800GTX XXX. I have run ALL without ramsinks.

First off I found the maximum overclock for my XFX 8800GTX on stock cooling.

660/1105 to 670/1105 depending on ambient temperature.

Then I installled a D-Tek Fusion/DDC 18w with OClabs top/PA120.1/Yate Loon fan/ 7/16th" tubing and tap water! (fine for short periods of time)

I didnt add ANY extra ram sinks. I tried overclocking the ram with case air flow and their own 120mm fan and guess what? I got EXACTY the same clock that I did on the stock cooling.

Final clock: 680/1105 stable.

Although I did get over 710mhz on the core the card cut out, no artifacts, just cut out, so possibly not enough juice on the 12v rail (17amp x 2). Enermax Galaxy 1kw, not using all available rails due to missing modular cable.

Its not the most difinitive of tests and I have more tinkering to do anyway, but I hope it will be of some help to people cooling and or clocking thier GFX cards. :)

***Update***
While Weescott didn't manage any extra overclock with watercooling, I did.
Stock cooler
630/1015 max stable at 73c load

Custom watercooling
653/1030 max stable at 50c load
Still not a great clocker compared to some =/
