happy chappy today, the agp x1950pro has arrived and im just shocked at the difference it has made. first of here are the pick, they are large at 1mb each so i won;t embed them:

its a HIS card, which has 512mb memory onboard. and as you can see from the pics the vrm on this card are cooled with the main heatsink stuck on it.

as for the benchmarks, an [email protected] is what i used.

first the score with the old 7600gs overclocked to 480core and 900ram:

now the x1950pro at stock:

having to use driver 7.7 since 7.8 doesn;t work, CCC says that there is no compatible display drive installed and i can;t get out of 640x480 4bit rez.

performance in Bioshock demo is staggering, its running at a rez of 1360x768 and compared to my main pc in my sig the x1950pro pc out performs it nearly 2 fold. i dunno if its cuz of the extra ram the x1950pro has or its vista im using on my x1900xt pc but something is badly up with it compared to the agp system.

as for temps, im getting 54c idle and running rthdribl for 15 mins stabises the temps at 75c. thinking of aftermarket cooling but not sure how im gonna end up cooling the vrm on the x1950pro.

excellent card which has extended the life of this agp system for a lot longer. GRAW runs great maxed out at 1360x768 as does farcry with HDR enabled.
Test drive unlimited still runs jerky so im gonna assume its my cpu at fault here.
about to run battlefield 2 now to see how it is.

one major bonus i can spot a mile away on the 32inch lcdtv which is hooked up to the x1950pro, its the angle independant AF which gives far superior image quality than what the 7600GS ever did.

i was wrong about the performance of bioshock, well, it performs badly on my x1900xt in vista 64bit compared to the x1950pro in xp. i rekon its the 256mb vram holding me back though on the x1900xt but its gonna be hard to find out unless i slap my x1900xt into a xp machine.

id well and truly recommend the x1950pro to any AGP masters still out there. its a very good card.

Yeah they are good cards especially for the price, glad that your happy.

Need to change your sig though.

I just ran 3DM05 on my OC X1950 pro i got today.

Sounds like a good card Mav. The reason the AGP dosn't work on 7.8s is because ATi royally screwed up the 7.8s so they actually dont work with any AGP card's. Fear not it is in hand and being sorted :)

DOHHHHHHH someone could have told me about that earlier it took me damn ages to sort it out. soo many issues i was having with 7.8 driver. happy now on 7.7 drivers.

Garyj881: no need for me to change the sig, my main pc still has the x1900xt in it. its the second pc i got which used to have the 7600gs in it which i have now swapped over to the x1950pro.

now as for temps, if just slapped on a arctic cooling accelro S1 its running passive at the moment. and running rthdribl for the last 15 mins temps have level off at 57c on the gpu. im very impressed.
but while the test was running i opend up the case and put my finger on the vrm heat spreadder that comes with the arctic cooler. i bloody burnt my finger on it. id say vrm doing over 70c. so what i did was i slapped on 3 zalman ramsinks ontop of the heat spreadder so it shoudl help out with vrm cooling. iv run out of heatsinks though since there was still space to slap on 2 more. ill have to pick up heatsinks sometime.
the ram on the car is running bare, it not even getting warm, i may get some heatsinks for them, or ill probably just run them bare. depends how i feel tomorrow i guess.

overall im happy with this agp solution. i will take some pics sometime to show the modded cooling solution especially the bodge job on the vrm.

i'm running an agp x1950pro in vista here just fine with the 7.8s. is this an xp problem?

Yes, those blooming 7.8s gave me a bit if a headache at the weekend :(

Finally convinced my mate to buy my old x1950pro AGP off of me to replace his 7600. Did the old uninstall of nVidia, driver cleaner, latest Cats from ATi only to find that I couldn't turn on the AGP/PCi read/writes and that performance was all over the place with benchmarks coming in at nearly half the score I expected.

He was then saying, the cards poo take it out install the old one until I installed the 7.7s and now all's well. Or it will be when he finally pays me for it!

ok iv got the pics for you guys now here they are, accelero S1 fitted along with the vrm heatsink mod. in the expansion slot next to the gfx card i got one of those antec blower thingys that suck out the air from the case and push it outside. its running on medium speed so its parctically silent. gpu load temp is 53c.
