after fitting a new tyre i bought, i noticed the rear wheel axle was loose, so i took a closer look and it actually came out from the barrel.

looks like this

and some ball bearings are missing from inside the wheel barrel.

You can get a new hub put in - depending on how much it's worth it might be more sensible, while you're at it, to replace the rim, but if the rim's in good nick just get them to stick a new hub in.

You might even get away with new bearings and a new axle which should only cost relative pennies. Depends how shagged it is, I can't really tell from that. Plus I'm not very clever at bikes these days.

Or use it as an excellent excuse for bling new wheels

sorry, i called the axle a hub.

anyway , the wheel is in good nick, so new axle would be best , I've not got the tools to fit it so ill have to take it to a shop.

if its easy enough to fit, i will learn and save coins on labour. :)

I could be wrong but by looking at your sig it appears you have an appollo?

You could get away with a new axle and new bearings, (although it may look like you missing a lot, i think your only missing 1, possibly 2)

To fix it properly you'll need to take the cassette off, which will require a tool, and possibly a chainwhip; and then you'll need a set of cone spanners.

Or cause its probably not a hugely expensive wheel you could just get a new one for not too much.

Make sure that if you get a new wheel, that its the right one for your cassette, ie is the freewheel on the cassette or the wheel.

Oh how many times i have saw this at work.:o

Near rear axle + bearings = £10 + fitting(tools to do it are quite expensive)

New rear wheel = £24.99 and you just get some guy on bikehut to take the freewheel off and put it on your new one.

(i think we have two of your frames 'stored' up where the air conditioning in my work is,back from years ago)
